well after slagging audi TT's off as being hairdresser's cars for a while now I have to admit that after having a ride in a 225 one today I am very impressed with both the ride, handling & power delivery, especially as it was a rag top as well
It's just a shame I didn't have me scoob with me (took the pipe & slippers saab today) to compare relatively against mine.

Surely hairdressers wouldn't buy the rag top for fear of a little over-bouffantness?
Not a bad motor as they go, but of course that's nothing less than you would expect being based on the Golf
I would have one, but they don't do a diesel one (yet).

Well, I've seen my neighbour driving one today, a red soft top and he seems quiet pleased with it.
He isn't a hair dresser and apparently used to be a good driver, being one Nigel Mansell.

aahh, cheers TomM, you following me
I must admit, the TT I was in the other day felt like the chassis could have taken more power, although I wasn't behind the wheel.

I drove one at Palmer Sport and hated it. Better than the S3 but not much. Normal vaugueg VW sterring and spongy switch like on off brakes with no feeling. Really didn't like it. Great build quality and nice interior which could show Subaru a thing or two. Horses for courses really, Scoob for driving TT for posing.

Autocar, EVO, Car, What Car and Top Gear have all said that the TT is just about the best car to live with, year in, year out for a few years. Amazing build quality, amazing looks, brilliant reliability, good residuals, safe handling wet/dry/snow etc...
Horses for courses really. Its like i've said before, they're very different vehicles. To compare the TT with the scooby is like comparing Steffi Graf with Anna Kournikova. They both do the same job, its just that one does it looking a hell of a lot better

beefola - I think that the main difference that everyone seems to overlook is it's only a 2+2 in my eyes, not a true 4 seater.
So how all those reports like autocar etc can say it's the best all round car to live with, well not if you have kids it isn't.
I have tried to get in the back of a TT, ok I am not the smallest of people, I had no chance, only if I layed sideways across the whole back seat, but I can fit in the back of a scooby ok. So as long as the comparisons don't include practicality then

sorry beefola I was being a bit pedantic I know....
I still havn't driven one anyway, so can't really comment to be honest....it's not the same being a passenger in one.
Lovely inside though, looked like great build quality.
Still unsure which way it should be driven though, where is the front
Going off topic slightly:
I like Evo's 5 rough purposeful look personally & skyline R33 & R34
It's always interesting getting other peoples views & windups, it's all about realising that the current performance car YOU drive is directly related to the money YOU earn....end of story.
You don't see anyone partexing (that's a great word)a skyline for a scooby do you??

I was being 100% serious for once, honestly. If its good enough for an ex F1 world champion that who am I to argue? Nige looked very pleased with it, saw him twice on Sunday and he was smiling while driving and looking happy. Mind you the speed limit is only 40 mph over here in Jersey and he was only cruising and catching the sun. Not his only car though....

crapaud62 - really, I did think you were joking to be honest...but I suppose Nigel Mansell could drive a scooby sport faster then me in my turbo....mind you I am a much better conversationalist (look what you have done to me now, I'm using long words)...pedantic as well in the same thread you will have people thinking I am intelligent soon.
ps - you must have loads of cash if you live near mansell then
I suppose being a banker helps as well

Having a classic shape Scooby myself and a friend having a TT coupe (225bhp) which I've driven over some "challenging" roads I reckon I can give a fair assesment...
Power - The scooby actually feels faster due to more lag and more kick where the TT is smoother. Don't think there is anything in it at all though in true straightline speed.
Handling - Pretty close but I think the Scooby has the edge here. The TT seems to understeer more and didn't seem to turn in as well, still pretty good though
Looks & Build - The TT wins hands down on this one, my friends is flat gray, wears 18" wheels on lowered suspension with titanium lights and looks simply stunning. Interior is also lovely, grey leather and quality fittings, though takes a while to get used to the "letterbox" view!
Practicality - Scoob wins this one easily especially as mines a 5 door. Comfortable room for 5 adults and 3 dogs (yep, been done!) where the TT is really only a 2 seater, back seats are useless and the boot is small!
Value - Scoob wins this too. I've got a MY94 thats probably worth about 6k, friends TT was 30k!!! The TT's nice, but not five times as good as my scoob

Shunty "ps - you must have loads of cash if you live near mansell then" Actually, Nige must have loads of cash as he lives near ME
Dereck Warwick lives just around the corner and he no slouch behind the whell either. He drives Hondas as he owns the Honda dealership. Very nice down to earth chap by the way.
I still like the Audi TTs but they are SO common over here
