The ESL live mapping board allows full control of the pre '96 ECUs, and we can map them properly for new injectors, MAF sensors, MAP sensors infact pretty much anything you can do with an aftermarket ECU. It retains the factory knock control and diagnostic facilities. What it doesn't have is a snazzy display, or the facility to swap between boost levels like you can with a PowerFC.

It's cheaper by far compared to a Simtek or even a PowerFC. It's a great solution for those not wanting bells and whistles, or without the need for a MAFless solution. Cost is comparable to an Ecutek remap, and it's available fairly widely throughout the UK, including Zen.

Exactly what Paul said.

We could develop antilag and launch control, but IMHO for the vast majority of road cars they are not required unless you want to pretend to be Solberg in Asda car park. The fastest accelerating Impreza in the country runs a couple of Apexis without the above and seems to do pretty well due to the simple fact that if an ECU can accurately control timing, fuelling and modulate boost pressure then its job is done.

I understand the point about the MAFless running on the MY99/00 MAF and I have an STi5RA that I've just put back together but am planning to put a more robust MAF on it and have it Ecuteked to suit. That way I get to keep my knock control and spend alot less money.

The 92-96 cars have enough headroom on the standard MAF to annihilate the standard gearbox as quite a few of us have discovered and the Z32/261 MAF exists for those that have a forged engine, fuelling and turbo to match as well as a PPG or a six speed. As standard cars of this vintage come in at the 2k mark now, who wants to spend over half as much again on an aftermarket ECU?

The OEM ECUs have algorithms that have been subject to everyday use for hundreds of millions of miles across the world. The factory driveability, closed loop knock control and diagnostic facilities are some of the last things I'd want to remove from my cars IMHO.

We won't offer anything for MY99 as Ecutek cover it.

My advice to anyone wanting a remap is think very carefully before you bin your OEM ECU, in the majority of instances it will do what you want in the most cost-effective fashion. Paul has listed the aftermarket alternatives above, they all have their pros and cons.

seeing very good results with the esl stuff on the early car..

from a simple boost increase on a standard car just with decat through to fmic, bigger injectors, 98 sti maf, and bigger cc, different turbo etc..

impressive to use and roll on 97 / 98 version

I have read every thing on this topic but cant see the software your using nor how you link ecu to laptop would be very greatful for some one to let me know Regards
