Gain-of-function labs are not banned in the US. The ban on funding gain-of-function was lifted in 2017 by the US. In fact it was only banned for 3 years.

 

So you would have to ask yourself

why they be banned at all , and what is the sole purpose anyway…

 

They were not banned. What was banned was public money being used to fund labs performing gain-of-function activities. This was mainly due to several accidents in U.S. biocontainment labs. However, the NIH in 2017 determined GoF studies can be of great benefit in understanding how disease works and can be combated.

 

The public are the voters are they not , the government thought they couldn't get back in with such abhorrent scheme so these companies shifted to places where voters hardly get a say
