Does anyone else find it interesting that when the British press call those fleeing war zones sich as Syria "Asylum seekers", then the British public want them stopped at all costs and the government isn't doing enough to stop them. Yet when they refer to the people fleeing war in Ukraine as "refugees", then the public is overwhelmingly enthused to help them and welcome them into the UK and the government isn't doing enough to get them here to safety!

I don't think it _should_ be like this, but people apparently feel more affinity with people who look like them, and who they perceive to have "values closer aligned with them" (i.e. white / christians etc etc). Again, not condoning, but it's a fact that this happens.

After all, Brexit showed us we didn't want Poles or Romanians, and Ukrainians would be a similar group.But as refugees they are more than welcome!
