The problem is you are only looking back 80 years or so, when in reality you need to look back over 2000 years to when the region was dominated by the Jewish people who were forced out by the Romans and were subsequently persecuted in every land they fled to culminating in the holocaust.

The whole situation is extremely complicated and very deep rooted. Both sides have a valid argument and claim to the land. One can understand why many Palestinian people feel they have little option than to join Hammas and resort to terrorism. One can also understand why the Israeli's retaliate after such horrific terrorist attacks. So the cycle continues!
