All-year-round tyres

I had new all weather tyres fitted in the Cube today and dare I say it has even more grip now than the XV which has quite worn all weathers.
I can even start on a hill covered in ice (with some wheel spin of course), this would have been impossible with the summers. The previous Bridgestone Turanzas had a lot of tread left but they were from 2017 and their sidewalls were full of micro cracks.

I had a nice trip on a snow covered Autobahn on Friday! I took it easy sticking to 120kmh with Pirelli Sottozero Winter tyres, was being overtaken quite a bit though! 2 hour journey in heavy snow, didn't see a single accident! Can't help laughing at the complete chaos in the UK last week and the news reporting heavy snow fall then showing pictures of a couple of inches!

I used to live in Germany and often saw them driving at ridiculous speeds at derestricted sections of the autobahn when temperatures were close to 0 and it was raining. Some Germans think they are invincible because they use winter tyres and just because the motorway has an unlimited speed limit, it doesn't mean you need to do v_max regardless of the conditions
The same situation when there is fog and when there are accidents they usually involve a few dozens of cars and fatalities.
It's true that 99% of Germans use winter tyres but quite a few of them have blinkers, too (and not the signalling type ones!)

The 'being overtaken quite a bit' is what concerns me!

In fairness, at 235 width and high performance with no speed limit, my Winter tyres are great on Ice, but somewhat limited on Snow. I was driving well within the limits on my tyres but wouldn't want to go much faster than I was, but I can well imagine, thinner tyres which are less performance oriented could have gone quite a bit faster than me. Most were only going 10 or 20 kmh faster than me, but there were one or two that really blasted past me and made me wonder how they could go that speed safely!
The real point I was making though, is that the conditions on Friday night would have had people sleeping in their cars over night in gridlock, while the mandatory use of Winter tyres in Germany meant there were no problems.
