Yes I was on way to see the red cs400 last week but had problem with my Jag when just 10 minutes away (near Portsmouth) so had to return home

I was unsure about colour as black or a dark grey would be best, but thought seeing it might change my mind.
However I think asking price is about 10K over the top tbh, and I know red cars are not easiest to sell, I recall the cheapest R35 GTRs were red, but I wanted and bought black and never regretted it.

 

Just remember that Imprezas trim and interior quality may be lacking compared with what you are used to. Power too!!

 

I've come from a similar direction, my last car was a BMW M2, i changed that for my current car which is a 2008 Sti hatchback, 2.5 UK. Whilst modern cars are great, they have nice interiors that look and feel expensive, your not as engaged with the car as much as you are with the scooby, the electronics are doing a lot for you in a modern car. I like the rawness of the scooby, its not about a plush interiors for me, i like the rawness of a road going rally car, i like the sound of the UK engine with the unequal length headers, you feel like your driving a road going version of a rally car which basically is what it is. I'm also enjoying the journey of modifying it and trying to improve the car along with trying to bring it back to its former glory the best you can, just basically looking after it.

I think when you take on a scooby, especially the older ones, you need to be prepared for the ongoing costs, their will be quite a few especially with the paint which even from my limited time of owning one again you can clearly see its thin and terrible. If you can get one already done then great but most of this age will need quite a bit of paint over the time you own it, i'm debating a full respray on mine as its the only way to get a full coverage of thicker paint as its not worth say doing the odd few panels here and there say a bonnet, rear quarters because of road rash, 1 door (chips), 1 wing, the roof (chips), you may as well do the lot.

Anyway it still gives me more smiles per gallon than a modern car, modern cars are great but they can be a bit soulless if that makes sense.

Yes you are spot on and understand where I'm coming from in wanting another Scooby.
The Jag XKR is fast but you are not 'driving it' if you know what I mean.
Now the GTR is a very clever fantastically quick car that was built/prepared to beat the Nuremberg Ring so handles as well, I kept the GTR for 6 years simply because there wasn't much on the road that could beat 0-60 in under 3 secs and nearly 200mph.
But the feeling of driving my mildly tuned P1 always put a smile on my face so want to have that experience again.

 

Might have come across a bit funny but I wasn't saying you aren't an enthusiast just that scoobies aren't as accessible as they once were.

I think these cars are going the way of the evo, doesn't matter what the model is prices are going up. I think you could get away with a non special edition and still sell it for more money than you bought it for. So perhaps fine one right for you.

 

Yes I might have to consider other options as the CS400 are hard to find with low mileage and only come in Red, Silver and Dark Grey, so finding a black one isn't going to happen :-(
