Default GC8 Prodrive Back Box

Hello,
Does anyone know the diameter of the piping on the genuine Prodrive back box that came on the GC8?

Can't seem to find any info on the internet regarding if it's a 2 inch or 2.5 inch.

Cheers,
ET

It's 2.5" but the exit pipe is smaller than newage models

Non turbo models are 2.25" bore but the 2.5" ones still fit fine.

So part from most of the mounting points being in the wrong place I wanted to see if the back boxes are interchangeable diameter wise. To my knowledge, the current exhaust system that I have on my car is 2.5 all the way, which means that it should fit!

The stock 03 STI back box is too quite...

That's a no. Rear hanger is facing the wrong way. GC8 hanger faces inwards. And Newage face outwards. Think there mounted in slightly different place aswell.

Exactly, that is what I mean. The hanger on the current STI back box is in the wrong place. One of the reasons I would like to change to the Prodrive box is so it will fit properly.

I doubt you'll notice any difference in noise. Unless you gut the silencer and reweld it.

Oh I see. So the car currently has a GC8 exhaust on it? In that case yes best to get correct newage one.

Looks nice and clean that, as long as its going on a 1993-2000 Classic will fit fine. Get some pictures up when fitted.

This is the car it's going on:

Will probably get around to installing it tomorrow. Will definitely post pictures once it's on.

So... Little update.
Changed the two back boxes. Decided to change a few gaskets while the car was up.
The only gaskets I did not change were the head to headers and the up pip to turbo gaskets since I'll probably be upgrading the headers, I'll do the gaskets at the same time.
A few pictures of the process and a link to a short comparison video that I uploaded to YouTube. Not that much of a difference TBH.
There is a Magnex center section laying around which I might try swap in next week and see if that makes any difference.
We shall see...

The two boxes together (Prodrive on the left, 03 STI on the right):

The new gaskets:

The old gaskets (They really needed replacing. As you will see there wasn't much left of the one on the left which was between the mid section and back box):

This is the part number of the Magnex mid section (At least I think it's a Magnex piece):

Link to the short YouTube comparison clip:

If anyone has any info on Magnex exhausts I would love to hear what you have to say about them.
I'll probably clean it up and post a picture of the whole piece next week.

Thanks,
ET

Good work. Centre sections usually go for about £50 second hand regardless of make.

On the headers, unnless you are planning big power (400+hp) then there's no need to change these.

Well done, what i will do is wait a few weeks as the silencer gets full of carbon you will find the noise increases, happened with mine. Then if you want abit more, remove the centre pipe for a straight through one. Is it OEM one on the car?

I'm planning to squeeze what ever I can out of the VF43 I currently have on the car. Won't be 400 hp, that's for sure.
If I'm not mistaken the car currently has 'Agency Power' aftermarket headers which might be leaking and I can't be bothered fixing them (since they're very old and have already under gone some repairs in the past).
I'll swap them for some other aftermarket brand. Most units do the job just fine.

Yes, the current center pipe on the car is from an 03 STI. I believe that with the 'Magnex' center pipe, I should be able to get a few more dB.

In any case, we will find out next week. =)
