some big hitters get tested against each other and I’m very impressed with the meguirs.
That looks interesting, I'll have a little watch of that when I get home later, thank you

That’s correct, I contacted him through social media and it was at my door within a few days. He’s a great guy and the quality of his products is excellent. I can highly recommend him 👌🏻.

I’m not sure how to share a link on here but his Facebook page is just called KEIN or he’s @Keinfab on Instagram. He replies to messages on both. The him @scoob_dj on Instagram sent you and he might knock you some money off

Added a set of Perrin Fender Shrouds and Radiator Cover this weekend, still waiting on a red Perrin AOS and Red Perrin Strut Brace to be delivered that should finish the engine bay off nicely. I wasn’t overly happy with the grey foam that Perrin supplies with the radiator cover so a quick spray with some Audi red that I had kicking around and it now matches really well.

Little update - new wheel fitted in the form of a 350mm Nardi Personal Neo Grinta in Suede with red stitching and horn that perfectly match the red STI accents.

RCM equal length headers are now installed, will be going back for another map tweak to get the most out of them.

Hi bud, no going to keep it single scroll. I wanted to upgrade to equal length for safety, mainly to reduce the cylinder pressures associated with running unequal length headers. I'm still on the standard block, so just trying to keep it as reliable as possible. The engine will be built eventually, then will be going down the bigger turbo route.

I didn't realise the that was a thing to enhance reliability on the 2.5

What will the headers do to performance, will you gain and lose anything or will it be the same.

Equal length headers will add safety to any Subaru engine. The design of the standard unequal headers can encourage detonation due to the increased temps from uneven cylinder pressures. The good thing about the unequal design is it encourages quicker spool as exhaust gasses on the shorter side of the headers reaches the turbine wheel more quickly. Equal length headers, on the other hand, can increase lag very slightly, but the added safety margin often means that mappers can dial in more timing more safely to minimise the lag. The freer flowing nature of the tubular headers also means that the engines make power further up the rev range too, the standard headers choke up around 5.5k revs on a 2.5, which is why most of the power graphs you will see show power taking off after then. They will also add torque, so there’s many upsides to fitting them.

The guys at Zunsport recently asked if they could use my car as a test mule to create a set of grilles for the 2015 onwards STI’s and I was happy to oblige. The first trip up to them saw them mock up and test fit a hood scoop grille along with upper and lower bumper grilles. A few weeks later they had managed to sort the jigs and had a set ready for installation in my chosen powder coated black. I’m really happy with the look of them and makes the front end look a little more unique now. I need to finish it off to the standard I want by taking the bumper back off so that I can remove the upper grille to spray the blue lip that the original grille fastens to. A few coats of black paint should make it invisible and will look properly finished then.

Nope, zero issues so far. Thanks, the steering wheel is more function than for looks, better grip for track work.

They let him out just when lockdown finished, ready for all his favourite subjects, eg headgaskets, 2.5's, Zany, general tat. The names are getting better though.

Oil change completed this weekend with my usual Millers 10w40, but also took advantage of the dry weather to fit some rain guards. Still not 100% on them, so will leave them on for a couple of weeks to see if I warm to them. If not, they are dead easy to remove so no dramas there.

I went for the standard Subaru wind deflectors on mine but yours do look really nice.

I love the grilles too, did Zunsport give you any indication of when they will be making them for everyone else to buy?

Thanks

JP

Thanks mate, I was looking for the originals at first but saw these and thought they might be a bit different. The quality and fit is really good on them, so I'm pleased with that. I will see if I can find out when they are planning to launch them and come back to you.

I've just spoken to the guys at Zunsport, they will be uploading the grille set to their website this week, including prices. they say that they would be looking to start production just after xmas, but they may do a pre-xmas run if they have enough interest. They will also be sending me a discount code which I will let you have once I am in receipt of it.

Brilliant, I'd really appreciate that. It makes such a difference to the look of the car.

After a fairly long wait due to lack of stock at Perrin (good old Covid) my Perrin AOS turned up a few days ago. This fits on the pitch stop mount as I have a FMIC and I must say it fits really well. Managed to get it all plumbed in, only thing I will say is get some PTFE tape to ensure all the fittings seal properly.

I've got one of those to fit on a standard gr engine bay, but my flexi tower bar is in the way ( and the tmic obviously) Does it need to be that height relative to the block?
