People are obviously more worried about sh!ting themselves to death, rather than starving to death.
problem is misinformation. My Mrs said the other day that she heard apparently this country doesn't make loo roll and only hold enough stock to last a fortnight.
The one show the other night had a report from a toilet roll production site that make 2 million rolls a day.
I get that people don't want to be stuck indoors without toilet roll, but if everyone was sensible a pack of loo roll would easily be able to be purchased on a weekly basis if and when we are forced into isolation but allowed out once a week for provisions as is happening in other countries.

Read an funny article in the German press this morning, likening the UK response to the story line of Jaws, with the UK government ignoring all the advice of experts and putting money before peoples safety (sending everyone back into the water).
The German press are now referring to Boris Johnson by the name "Popo the (Killer) Clown" following this article in the Guardian.

Its almost funny that the readers comments on news websites, BBC are all sounding off their hated of Tories and Boris, when really there is no other current politician whatever party that could make it any different. NHS would still be screwed, and feejits will still hoard bog roll

I'm not sure there is an easy answer to this, you can't keep people cooped up forever, they simply won't go for it (I appreciate that if it has an 80% mortality rate it would be different!). I see China has virtually stopped new cases, but what happens when they remove restrictions? Also, this is not China, they are hardcore, I imagine they have all sorts of measures in place to make people do what they want that we would not!
I do think that our decision to stop widespread testing is a bad idea, anyone with a sniffle will isolate, as will their families, the cascade effect will be huge, not to mention all the chancers who will take advantage.
The real impact of covid19 will be economic, not human, which will ultimately lead to more suffering down the line. I'm very lucky, I have no mortgage and I'm not going to lose my job, but I am probably not in a majority, I really do feel bad for huge swathes of people, and not because they will be ill.

The NHS improved a little under the last Labour government, it just wasn't enough to undo the damage done by the Thatcher/Major governments. Since then, the Tories have undone the little good that was done by the last Labour government.

The problem under Labour was funding increase was not aligned to both the widening of treatment coverage and increased rate of population growth (in addition to the prior long term underfunding and wasteful mismanagement).
It needed to be 10% GDP in the 1990’s to get it on track, still does as I showed in another thread 8% does not cover it, it’s just treading water.
Plus PFI wasn’t really a improvement was it? More of a ’deferred burden’. I could spend all day picking issues like that from each preceding and current governments; However my my point is this...
In my lifetime the NHS has never been equipped to manage a pandemic.
There possibly could be a cold war/Ww3/nuclear disaster protocol buried in some secret document somewhere, but I guarantee it will not have funding provision.

You know what’s annoying...there is so much noise about this it’s highly difficult to filter out proper information that is specific and not vague. Almost feels like some subversion is at play with the media. For example how long it lives on surfaces...Only today did I find it can live on metal for around 3 days..,this could have been better publicised over a month ago!
So to be frank this is bad but not as bad as norovirus for spreading...aka the cruise ship bug. Apart from its not a cruise ship now, it’s the whole bloody world so containment is practically impossible now the cat is out of the bag.
Still, can’t find info on its favoured temperature and humidity for survival.
Then the deaths....Italy’s stats are best here: The majority are over 70. And of the total deaths 75% had high blood pressure, 33% had heart issues and 35% had diabetes (guess it’s type 2 and probably obesity related hence blood pressure and heart issues).
Honestly from those stats it almost feels like this virus was designed to wean out the old and unhealthy.

So most older people have higher blood pressure
And from above roughly 2/3 rds didnt have underlying problems ?? ...
the lack testing here means weve got a whole load undignosed cases imo

Edited...the percentage stats are for ALL the deaths in Italy. 99% had one or more underlying issues.
As of march 17th, 17 under 50 have died (vs. 1757 deaths of those over 70).

WHO and EMA links are the most important.
Here is another link to the Robert Koch Institute in Germany which also has a page in English. Its a bit German centric, but still good advice on there!
