Wowzers, we had the remoaners harping about Brexit causing shortages and chaos at boarders, when in reality the thing they really should have been truely worried about is the meer fear that the wider public may run out of something so they all go out any buy it all at the same time. This is far more damaging to both the public and and economy than any political/trade treaty.

(p.s Allergy induced Asthma sufferer...immune system a lot better since weaning off the steroids, used to get 5+ colds a year that’d last weeks each time, now get one a year and it lasts a week tops).
Yep this is another major factor the politicians seemed to have overlooked. When it's mass isolation how do they expect the online supermarket orders to cope? People will be stuck at home yet unable to order food because there won't be any delivery services available due to everyone ordering from home and it over run plus the delivery drivers being off sick with it. I'd be interested to know how Italy is dealing with that one. Also if everyone is in isolation and the country on lock down then how is anyone in Italy able to get food if all the shops are shut and no one is allowed to go anywhere? All the panic buying won't last people long so the long term picture is far more of a concern. Ultimately people won't stay at home as they will have to go out to buy food.

I have used this guy as a source of hype and panic free information and advice about covid-19 since late January. Informative and impartial advice from a qualified, experienced practitioner. UK government is ignoring the data at present, WHO were a bit slow to get out of the blocks but now seem to by trying to send a message to help "course correct" what the UK should be doing. Will be interesting to see if this message gets listened to or ignored.

my wife spoke to a friend via video call in Milan. Supermarkets are open, each district is given a time slot and people are allowed to go to the shop in this time slot once a week.

In the grand scheme of things, fizzy pop virus won't make a jot of difference other than some short term disruption, but when something like Ebola and fizzy pop join forces, nature has found a way of culling the human plague. It's just a matter of time IMO. Might not happen in my life time, but it will happen. But still, lets all base our economies on growth and building new houses.

If you've not watched it, there was a program on BBC/iPlayer I think about a visit to Porton Down a few months ago, to explain what they did. Other than not explain what they did, which was quite funny, "What's in that building over there", "Oh, can't tell you", they did cover chemical weapons and Ebola. I think they made some mustard gas, then some Sarin, maybe something else, but the one thing they took most precautions over was Ebola, so not even a chemical weapon, but clearly the thing they think could cause mass destruction of human life. Interesting if you can get hold of it.

That's good in that their restriction on movement still allows for food shopping but it doesn't really meet the idea of self containment. But what's the answer? You can't realistically contain a population as everyone needs to obtain food and online shopping can't sustain that level of demand.

For Italy, I don’t think it’s a case of total containment, moreso the minimisation of movement to decelerate the rate of spread to manageable levels.

I used to go to Porton Down many years ago when I worked for a courier company to deliver things for a large pharmaceutical company. Personally didn't go there often but it was quite a regular gig our company had.

My sibling just cancelled a trip to the UK based on what is being broadcast about this.
The following is my response.

Hi xxxx. Hey ho! It is what it is. I wouldn't come to the UK either. It's full of selfish imbeciles who think that tearing hundreds of toilet rolls from the supermarket shelves is productive.
I'm really sad that the european governments can't deal with an illness that will effect far fewer people than seasonal flu (medically at least). It's a very mild illness in most (if noticeably at all) but can be serious for the elderly and ill folks who should be the focus of calm/proportional efforts.
This will be seen as one of Europe's most ridiculously handled periods.
I also blame 'our' atrocious media, BBC included, for their unbelievable coverage of this 'crisis', (their massively over used word).
Other words used: epicentre (like an earthquake), outbreak, panic, disease, deaths (deaths that are reported without defined context), chaos (a particular favourite of the tv news channels).
Boris Johnson is invisible, as is usual when he may be exposed as a bumbling nut.
You couldn't make it up! Our area has one, I repeat one, positive coronavirus result in 200,000 people.
Our chief scientific officer said that protecting folks (healthy people) from this virus is 'counter productive' as we need to build up immunity in our population. Just as the human race has done with other viruses for ever and ever amen!

Anyone getting viral paranoia/hypochondria?

I have a slight throat tickle and my lymph glands feel a little tender, not sure if it’s just an off day or worse

I have a probably imaginary very slightly sore throat.

In other more real news the shelf’s are still being cleared of TP. I thought that would blow over and settle back to normal, but no, it’s very WTF.

I popped to my local Tesco at lunchtime to get a few bits and bobs, the girl on the counter said people were queuing at the door at 6am, they had a delivery of loo roll at 11, when I got there at 12 it was all gone

Why are the British public so stupid?
