Theres a great thing called common sense , if your coughing and sneezing especially when this is all going on please tell me why you would be out shopping ? Surly you would self isolate ,,

I believe some people don't show symptoms, don't realise they're carrying it and pass it on.

If its safe to wear those types of masks all day every day then why are people with asthma exempt ? I can speak from personal experience when it comes to face masks , as part of my job I have 24 years experience of them from plain old masks to fancy charcoal activated ones to full on air fed helmets , the masks we wear in Industria have valves and proper filtration , mask companies like 3M do not put a breathing valve on these for no reason , be my guest wear a surgical type mask in a very warm environment all day long without taking it off and come back to me tell me how you feel , I even had to go on a course and do a test on how to properly wear a face mask so I am well aware of how they operate, companies would not spend upto £700 per person for breathing masks if plain old paper and face coverings were sufficient , my point is it's a farse ! These masks are useless end of the day people will only research what they want to believe I can speak from experience , if you really want to stop a killer virus from getting in or out then realistically you need a full hazmat suite !

The best test for a mask’s effective is this:

Order a Phaal, Madras or jalfrazi from your favourite curry house. Eat said meal.
Wait for the after effect to kick in (approx 12 hours).

Wear respirator and go to the loo: Use a small toilet cubical to contain and concentrate smell.

If you smell nothing. Congrats, you have a effective mask.

If you can smell the ejectments of your bowels, then the mask is ineffective or not sealing correctly. Buy another mask and repeat the above procedure

Ali believe it or not your spot on ! When you sit the Facefit test ( test on wearing face masks ) you start off by putting a large hood on like a hasmat , the trainer then pumps a sweet or sour spray into the helmet to test your sensitivity, about 10-15 sprays before you taste it ,if you smoke it's about 25 -30 sprays , you then put a mask on tightly and repeat the test ,also move your head about ,i was clean shaven and had the mask on really tight and took 3 attempts to get the mask to seal ! Opened my eyes that day just how tight a mask must be worn in order to get it to 100% keep the nasties out ,,

At work we used isocyanate based paints so well aware of filtration; You could tell if there was a issue because you can smell pear drops!

Apart it’s not pear drops... it’s toxic.

If Covid-19 was an airborne disease I would totally agree that normal masks have no effect, but it's not airborne, its transmitted via droplets which are largely stopped by the mask. The tiniest droplets which are still able to pass through the mask are at least resisted and pass at a much lower velocity and thus reducing the range of travel. If we were dealing with Ebola, then the face mask requirements would be totally different!

All the evidence from the beginning has shown that masks are extremely effective at preventing the spread of Covid-19! No they are not 100% effective, but in combination with social distancing, they don't need to be! The fact that the UK government has only just come around to the idea that masks should be worn, probably tells you more about how the government is ineffective than it does about the masks!

personally think the UK no-mask policy has more to do with ensuring supply of PPE to health workers than it has with preventing the spread of the disease. Now that the PPE supply is adequate for the health service, they can allow the public to also purchase without risking supply to NHS, so now the public message is wear a mask! It obviously doesn't help that the British government has been giving mixed messages throughout the crisis. Personally, I would ignore anything that the UK advises and listen to countries that have done a good job of preventing the virus! If Angie is telling the Germans to wear masks in public, I'd be inclined to listen!

No way are these guidelines designed to protect the mask wearer

it’s the other way round

And to convince public to resume shopping on high street

if such a thing remains

How can covid not be air Bourne ? If you sneeze it's travels up to 100mph and releases up to 100,000 of particles , if you cough it's up to 50mph and up to 3000 particles , your talking microns here , so hate to burst your bubble it will transmit in the air , that's like spray painting and not expecting it to carry in the wind , that not the whole point of this 2 metre thing inside and out ? Sad thing is men fought and died to give us our freedom ! And the majority of us myself included go along with what the government tell us even tho deep down we know something ain't right ! But we live in a blame and shame society and nobody wants to be a social outcast !

Well it’s still wrong as they haven’t banned masks with exhaust (exhalation bypass) valves...air breathed or coughed out of these isn’t filtered or dispersed, if anything some designs concentrate it into several directional jets upwards and outwards so do little to disperse and due to the small openings can increase velocity therefore distance of spread!

Even US tabloids have pointed it out (along with San Francisco’s health officer):
