I'm still around and have been for a while !
Browse occasionally and post very occasionally.
Still got the same Impreza I bought in 1999 (on a sorn at present) was used daily for nearly 14 years.
Difficult to come to terms with the fact I bought the car when I was 36 and I'm 54 this week

Coming up to 10 years now since I bought my scoob and not long after finding this place, turned out to be expensive

Am more of a ghost reader these days, don’t post much on here but still very active in the community.

I'm still here, been a member since 2004 and was a lurker for a bit before that.

Had 3 Impreza's over a 10 year period and have had an Evo for just over 3 years now.

Shame the forum is so quiet these days, but pretty much everyone forum is the same.
MLR is dead, and the local forums are extremely quiet and some have disappeared altogether.

Guessing younger generation are more for social media. Saying that I know people visit the site but don't comment. Even my mate did it for a while and still does. And seen as a lot of older members are posting on here shows there still about. We should do a campaign and message old members see if we can get them back for a visit lol

I speak to a lot of members of this site who visit but don't post - the main reason they can't be bothered with the arguing and negative comments.
If they ask a question or post a picture of their car with mods the regulars don't agree with they get shot down in flames, so simply don't post.
It's a huge shame but I can understand why.

Completely agree about social media, although even the Facebook groups aren't anywhere near as busy as a year or two ago.

Are car enthusiasts dying out? Under 25's these days are generally more interested in the newest S Line Audi or M Sport BMW on a lease deal rather than a genuine enthusiasts car, and modified cars are often frowned upon.

Sign of the times unfortunately.

Not sure. Don't think so. Have some Friends with 3 lads. And there obsessed with cars. Can tell you most sporty cars bhp figures etc. Yeah agree with negative comments although I think that's changed a lot now. It was very negative when I joined. Specially if you had a dv lol.

I guess younger people are driving hot hatches. They properly think Whats the point getting a Impreza when you can get a cheaper hot hatch that has just as much power. Plus high insurance and low mpg.

This forum is more quiet but still plugging along. Think if traders section was cheaper would get more breakers. As they can use other sites for free. Or eBay that has a wider audience.

Hi Tony,

Harj is living and working in the States, near Orlando. Matt is running a hotel near the Lakes. Stef in Ibiza or somewhere. Not heard from Craig for ages. Still keep in touch with quite a few of the original lot. I think only Floyd and Tim Whiteside still have Imprezas.

I'd be up for a meet but I think most people on this thread are scattered around the UK so I can't see it happening.

P.S. Aged 41 and bought my first Impreza about 4 months ago...

I've been here since 2004!! Wow with my massive posts haha!! I've had Spec cs for most of that time and currently have a hawk Spec c, I go to the ring at least twice a year and do several track days as well every year so think I know a thing or 2 about scoobies but don't spout much as this this site is well known for keyboard warriors Cheers Rob

I joined the forums in 1999, the same time I bought my first, and only, Impreza, an RB5 WR Sport. She's 18.5 years old now and still going strong. Never broken down, servicing has been reasonable. Plus, now I'm the oldest I've ever been, insurance is cheap too.

I've had her mildly tweaked and remapped, going for responsiveness rather than outright power and she's running around 300bhp and 300 ft.lbs and weighs just 1235kg. Such a fun car still, even 18.5 years on. Not a daily driver, I've been running two cars since not long after getting the RB5, so that's helped - she's not hit 80k miles yet.

Just got her back after a few days in the garage as she finally needed some work on the rear sills due to rust - got my first advisory about that earlier this year. Considering she's lived outside this entire time, that's pretty good going.

As an aside, I recall back in '99 being told how my Impreza would cost me a lot to keep on the road, fuel costs were a given, but people also spoke about excessive servicing costs, expensive parts etc. However, this has not been the case. Sure, I've spent money tweaking things, like many of us have I'm sure, however, servicing has been cheap. To compare, the "normal" Ford Focus I used to run alongside the Impreza - a much newer car - was unreliable, breaking down on several occasions - warranty sorted the major causes - and it cost a lot more in general servicing, despite being done just once a year, like the Impreza. It gave me a new appreciation for just how well these Classics were built back in the day, I hope Subaru maintained that build-quality on later models, as it's really stood the test of time.

Oh, one final fact - likely hard for many to believe - my tweaked and driven hard Impreza is still on the original clutch. Yeah, I can hardly believe it myself lol. Note that the Impreza has always been my second car, so it's taken out when I explicitly want to drive harder, I have other cars for just pottering around and doing the work commute. Also, I guess practising a degree of mechanical sympathy - i.e. not slipping the clutch - can do wonders.

Edit: just noticed it says my join date was Oct 2002 - I must have another account I forgot about lol.

G.
