Mum loved those. Plus she mashed banana with the back of a fork onto the bread...and THEN tipped granulated sugar on top.

Now hears one for you it really boils down to being skint and not being able to afford things, but thinking back I wouldn't change a thing happy days

EU regs would have a field day with this......

Instead of cough mixture, vics vapour rub on a teaspoon with sugar

Things we're tough in our house, I say house but that would be a luxury, it was more like a cardboard box on the edge of the road

Luxury

Obviously referencing the Four Yorkshiremen sketch, there.

Steve, the Vics thing is nothing but pure madness lol.

Does anyone from around 45+ remember that stuff for kids called Virol?

Was in a dark brown glass 'urn'-shaped thing and the stuff itself looked like, and had the texture of, axle grease.

You'd lick some off a spoon - loved it.

Had a unique, distinctive flavour... I can still remember what it was like, some 40+ years on.

Wasn't it a malt extract with cod liver oil?

Do you remember halib-orange (sp?)

Andrew's Liver Salts used to mix with orange cordial and pretend it was pop

BTW I tried bread sauce, never really liked it

Used to have individual Yorkshire puddings (proper home made ones - the frozen $hite didn't exist then) stuffed with jam, for our Sunday dinner pudding (at dinner time ) back in the '70's.
