What mods have you done this week?
Nice engine bay Robsey, just a couple of questions , i have been told you should never put a 1.3 bar rad cap on the expansion tank just on the radiator, is this true? and also the bonnet lifters can distort the alloy bonnet of the STI, again any views on this please, i quite fancy the lifters on mine, Thanks

Such confusion. I originally had it on the rad but was told it needs to go on the top as per the instructions in the box. ( I didnt read them)
So I've put it there. I am tempted to bin it and buy oem just to ensure the correct pressures are there.
i have the same rad and rad cap but have mine on the rad , it came with the radiator so just kept it on there, it could be wrong then

1.1 bar on expansion tank and as Don says 1.3 with no wings on the rad keeps everything right. Long story but we proved it was the case with two 1.3 bar caps the rad ended up with air in the system and an empty expansion tank and overflow bottle.
Lord Harding on here had or has a custom made one on his wagon but i asked him where he got it b4 and i think the person or company who did it no longer make um, a lot of ppl take the blanket off and leave it off with no harm done, not really sure if it's there for sound deadening purposes or as fire protection or a bit of both
I just used that foil-backed insulation that you get from Wickes, B&Q etc. I think people use it in their houses for insulating bay windows and ceilings. It’s foil on one side and fibrous material in the other and is about 1cm thick.
To put it on I removed all of the original clips, which I always seem to break lol no matter how gentle I am and I used the old insulation as a template for the new stuff. The new clips I got from the local Motor factors at like 10p each or something. To get the new clips in I had to tap them with a hammer as they are quite stubborn to go in.

But that’s true never thought of it like that is it for sound proofing or fire protection but 8 assume it will Defo be fire resistant what’s on there now
the genuine one that you can use as a template I wonder if you can use dynamat like stuff

original one can get put to one side or thrown away no need to put it underneath the one you’ve made?
sorry for all the questions pal looking forward to doing this mod on the weekend it really sets the engine bay off the wr1 is superb aswell 🤞
I chucked the old one out after I’d finished using it for a template as it was floppy and falling to bits. I suppose you could try putting the old one on as well as a new one but I think that would make the overall thickness too much and the clips might not be able to hold them both in place

The classics don't have anything in the bonnet lol, weight reduction and more engine noise.
Have a look at fire proof material or heat resistant insulation that can handle engine bay temps that way it will keep engine heat in the engine bay so your bonnet will be easier to touch.
