That is very true. Our system has always been a two horse race or a single horse if the one party is in a muddle (Cons: after Major upto Cameron, Lab: Brown onwards).

Funnily I had my ballot paper arrive yesterday for the area mayor and there is an option for the communist party LOL :freak3

Though the village is in the Vale of Glamorgan, the farm is on the north side of the river Ewenny so from a parliamentary perspective we're the Bridgend borough and as such (and at the moment) I'd be voting for this women:

Yes and she upset a few people with her manoeuvres around Article 50. I thought she was brave and principled. I guess if the majority of people in Bridgend have a recent history of mimicking Turkeys voting for Christmas, there's nothing to stop them self-basting and voting Tory.

VAT on school fees

Tax on private health insurance

Increased taxes on anybody earning over £80k (but I reckon it would be an even lower threshold)

Labour would tax me into oblivion with no real benefit to society. Jeremy Corbyn is an idiot.

Corbyn has been listening to Diane on interview method, he within one day has said brexit is a done deal, then in the afternoon refused after 7 attempts to confirm he would complete the UK leaving the EU.

He and Diane are doing a great job

To some extent. But she was elected to do a job, based on her constituents wishes, she went against that.

You need a warehouse for the size of the irony behind that.

Although if im honest i dont see an issue with the others, but the diff is they wont affect me and if your earning over 80k, then you'll not get much sympathy for paying a bit more tax, alot of people live with 1/4 of that.

Nope, can't see how increasing teh tax contributions of those who can afford it could possibly benefit society.

Get a grip man. Here's oblivion for you, in the real world- this is the UK today, one of the richest countries in the world:

"April 2016 – April 2017
UK foodbank use continues to rise with over one million three-day emergency food supplies given to people in crisis in 2016/17.

April 2016 – September 2016
More than 500,000 three day emergency food parcels distributed to people in crisis in first half of 2016 – over 188,500 to children."

Some people can't see the wood for the trees.

Slap VAT on private school fees, increase PAYE on anybody earning above £80k, tax private health insurance and what happens?

You can no longer afford any of those things and you now put your children in a state school and use the NHS.

How has that benefited society??

Or is it just to punish anybody who has been even moderately successful and kill any aspiration within society?

As sad as that is I'm not sure why you have linked that to my post. Can somebody who doesn't rely on food parcels not have a legitimate concern about the levels of taxation?

Perhaps you should tell all those people reliant on food banks to get a grip as there are people in the third world who wouldn't even get that.

As it stands iirc the top 5% of earners (anybody above £70k a year) pay close to 50% of all income tax. The top 25 % of earners pay 75% of all UK tax.

Increasing taxes even further means that you get to a point where people can't be bothered to try and get the jobs (or business) that pay over £70k.

Why take all the extra stress and headache of trying to earn £70k ratger than £50k if the govt is going to take most of it?

A moderate increase for those on over £80k, and no increases for 95% of the working population will kill aspiration within society? Your having a larf. And since when did you have to earn over £80k to be deemed moderately successful? Millions of people have an extremely successful working life, and never come within sight of even half that figure. And if you think success in life is measured by how much you earn, then you're missing out big time.

Because you spoke of being 'taxed into oblivion'. Just trying to give you some perspective of what oblivion means to a hard working student nurse for example.

Totally agree with this. I'm not against paying tax, but the levels become eye watering once you get past certain points (eg marginal tax rate of 60% between 100k and 123k due to tapering off of personal allowance).

I know a lot of people who simply stuff as much as they can into a pension (tax free) or just simply work less (say some extra weeks of unpaid leave) to avoid this tax band. How is that helping tax receipts?

Add to this eg child benefit being removed by 60k etc etc, which arguably someone on 100k might not need, but given that they'll be paying several thousands a month in tax, it feels like a massive poke in the eye. Of course, if you're a contractor these particular tax rates don't matter, but if you're PAYE, they suck enormously.

with regards to private schooling, I'm considering sending my child to a private school, because the state system is failing her with disinterested teachers who aren't interested or able to help with her particular needs. This will put real stress on my finances, to the tune that if there was VAT added on, we probably would not be able to afford it (forget holidays etc already), but on the other hand if I send her to a private school, there is already less resources required in the state system (what this means is there will be more resources per child even in state school). WHY would you want to discourage this?? Most of the people I know at private schools struggle to make the fees already, and these kids will end up in the state sector instead, which means more resources needed in state school, which will be worse for everyone in the long run.

I want to like Jeremy Corbyn myself, he seems like an honest person, but with these kind of policies I just cannot support him or labour in this election.

I think if they're going to raise taxes on higher incomes, then it needs to be on household income, not the individual. Otherwise you end up with someone earning £80k single income a year paying a higher marginal rate than a couple earning £75k each. That's patently unfair.

Most private schools have charitable status because they are providing a service too the public.Utter nonsense & a huge fiddle.

Quote from their web site "Charitable status is still the most appropriate legal form for schools operating on a not-for-profit basis with a focus on the public benefit of the education they provide. "
