Prototype 22b FS at Bonhams

The old car market is a strange thing. Some cars are worth far more than they should be. Mk1 escorts are crap but now worth loads. Vw campers are terrible but get a mint early one and it's getting on for 50k.
People who were teenagers in in the 90's are the ones who now have the money to buy the cars that they dreamed of at the time and the Impreza was the king of the rally world and the street then. The 22b is the ultimate classic Impreza and is very limited in numbers so will command a high price.
Yes the price for this one (150k in total) seems excessive but is justified by its history and mileage and will only help drive the price of 22bs and other imprezas, mainly 2 doors at first but then others like ra's rb5's etc up.

Eh??
We know exactly why they command such high prices, because we understand the market for them.
I'll spell it out yet again - it's a bespoke model that's based on a WRC winning rally car. History shows these cars always appreciate massively in value. But the crucial part is the global appeal - not just one country.
It's got **** all to do with whether it's any better than any other car you want to compare it to.

Why are they priced substantially higher than a type R, P1 or any other special/limited production model? The way some people harp on about the 22B, you'd think it was light years ahead of any other variant Subaru have produced. I just want to know WHY people think they're worth 100k+? I have nothing against people desiring to own one, just want to get to the bottom of why people think they're worth 5x more.
