Been a while since I've read a whole project thread from page 1 including my own.
Jugger, you are absolutely mental doing that to a R205 as I would leave it completely standard. You could have just opt for a jdm hatch sti instead but it's your call.
Plenty of decent advice offered by all parties here and some nonsense lol.
2.3 is the way to fly but I'm not sure about the dual avcs heads if they are know to cause restrictions at the top end.
Billet crank hmm nice choice and I've I had the dosh I would probably buy that too. It's yours money after all and spend what you are comfortable with.
Both Alyn and Andy Williams are great company to deal with and I'm sure the project and build will come together nicely.
Baffle sump is adequate for road use and your next decision is turbo choice.
If 550 is your goal without mad boost then a good gt30 should get you there but if you want more then a gt35 equivalent is only option.
Banny Daz Iain has been there and done it so their advice is golden. Just stay away from chy lol.
Btw if you really want to know Alyn machined my Ej22t block for a 2.35 avcs build in my typeR which is currently and on going project. It simply can't be rushed.

I am also toying with building a completely separate engine so I can put the original engine back in if I decide to sell.

If there is nothing wrong with the R205 engine then I definitely won't split it just to use the heads.
Better to keep the long engine and put it aside and build a 2.3 long engine with single avcs heads.
That way you have options on what to do.
I bet the R205 is an epic car. Probably one of the most desirable out there.
Nearly as good as my jdm hawkeye sti spec c type ra.

[QUOTE=juggers;11917154]I might put the R205 up for sale for this reason as I am in two minds about messing with it, but if it doesn't sell then I have no choice

I would fit it all to your car and enjoy it bud

Did any of you guys have your crank balanced before the build?
Also the bottom end has been built for 2 months now and I am just waiting for the heads to be built up. Are there any risks associated to having the bottom end sat around such as rust etc? Or am I being over the top.
