So Brexit seems to be a good thing then.

In 2005 Labour got an 80 odd seat majority with less than 36% of the vote. How can that possibly be right? Why isn't that the real issue? Why people bang on about the 'unaccountable EU, and yet accept travesties like that? Who exactly have we 'taken back control' from?

Totally agree, my main reasoning for voting in was because in most cases my country and council has been controlled by a party I never voted for. Or in terms of the current government; A party I have little faith or confidence in doing a good job.
I'm still a Euro sceptic, but this isn't the way to sort it.
If we had a government that I felt was a force to be reckoned with in global politics, I may have voted different.

Meanwhile, nobody gives a stuff about democracy; https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/200092
Even a petition on a England independence referendum gained more signatures (before it was closed prematurely).

I have always spouted the "same old same old" crap re FPTP
but about a year ago I re-thought my reasoning and realised my views were based on emotion/flawed logic and the "myths" endlessly perpetrated by FPTP lobby and not reason/facts
I suspect Brexit would not have happened under PR - FPSP allows parties, whether Tory or Labour, to take the constituents for granted
Last edited by hodgy0_2; 14 September 2017 at 03:23 PM. Reason: chaneged FPSP to FPTP - not sure why i spelt it like that!!!

I am happy to admit I have been wrong about PR and FPSP

If I had been intellectually honest I would have voted against the status quo. I think I would now. It seems fairer.

Unfortunately for us the UKIP MEPs did a poor job at getting MEPs from other member states on our side; Instead just alienating themselves and in turn, us; One country's worth of MEPs isn't enough; you have to pally up ( like with Eurovision ), but that was never UKIP's aim anyway.

For a laugh I read an article on the Guardian about this - absolutely hilarious stuff! You'd think inflation (because of Brexit) was running at about 300% based on the article
This really is a direct quote below, seriously! (Anyone stupid enough to be a Guardian reader will probably be used to this sort of opinion though);
https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...-dollar-parity
Their articles always read like it's a student newspaper! They fail to mention that Apple has increased a number of items in dollar terms, but regardless it's usual for UK buyers to get overcharged in relation to their US counterparts, it's been the case for many years as most people will be aware - regardless of the $/£ exchange rate at that time.
What's hilarious is that if there were some crazed socialist Guardian reader types running the country then it would only be a matter of time until things ended up like all socialist states - runaway inflation due to overspending on welfare etc. Just look at a country the Guardian has favourable views of - Venezuela. Inflation? 741%

the Brexit-induced devaluation of the pound means that everything is really, really expensive.

The Guardian has been reporting even more BS than usual when it comes to Venezuela (no real surprise as when it comes to fake news and omission of facts to back up their agenda, the Guardian really does take some beating)
Fortunately 'off-guardian' has a piece sifting through some of the drivel they've reported regards to Venezuela;
With the Constituent Assembly elections due to take place on July 30th, the Guardian published a piece titled “Venezuela elections: all you need to know”. But instead of breaking through the fog of falsehood and misinformation that is typical of the mainstream media’s coverage of Venezuela, the Guardian comes up with another propaganda piece laden with lies, distortions and omissions. In this article we go through the Guardian’s piece, clarifying the falsehoods, adding the conveniently omitted information and questioning the whole narrative that is presented.
But like I said, anyone stupid enough to read The Guardian will probably just chose to ignore the facts.
