So Brexit seems to be a good thing then.

There's a petrol station where I am that always has queues because they are the cheapest around but have a tiny forecourt that despite having 4 pumps, can only do two cars at a time! Never a shortage of fuel though!

They've been allowed weapons to defend themselves from Karen who must fill up now despite still having half a tank because she's a "key worker" at <insert non-important job role here> and needs to take her child to/from school because they have <insert non-relevant medical condition here>. And if she doesn't fill up now she'll report your **** to the police for infringing her child's human rights.

So, today is the day that Brexit should have been completely done with the introduction of full border controls on goods arriving from the EU into the UK, which had been pushed back already several times already. (The EU managed to do this on time!)
This deadline has now been pushed back until 1 Jan 2022, presumably because the government know that further border control will only worsen the current supply chain issues.
There is one significant change being introduced today. EU citizens will no longer be able to travel to the UK using just their national ID cards and will instead require a full passport to enter the UK.
I know quite a few Germans who don't hold a valid passport simply because they've never traveled anywhere where they need one. Its actually quite uncommon within EU countries with national ID cards to hold a passport as most people only holiday or travel on business within the EU and they see no need to pay often significant fees for a document they don't need. Similarly, people who have held a passport often let it expire and will only renew when they intend to travel outside the EU again. Its only in countries like the UK that don't have a national ID cards that most people hold a passport!
My guess is a significant number of EU truckers probably don't actually hold a passport, so that could well add another hurdle to getting EU trucks to make deliveries to the UK and thus further straining the supply chains!
I wonder if those border controls will really come in on 1st Jan, or will they be pushed back even further? I've seen one report that questioned if the controls would ever be introduces! Either way, we're not taking back control of our borders any time soon!

The problem is why would an EU citizen bother to hold a passport
They can work, live, love, from the Norwegian Fjords and the snow covered Alps to the beaches of the Aegean, the balerics via Paris,Berlin Milan, Rome
Without having bothering to have one
Like Americans who like EU citizens have a whole continent of opportunities to explore
Uk passport holders will need to present one after 150 miles of travel
Well done brexidiots

All this taking back control, sovereignty and global Britain is all very well in theory, but it simply goes against the reality of humanity - people will always look for the easiest option! That's why people often pay higher prices for stuff on Amazon, simply because you can buy with one click which is way easier than combing the internet for hours to find the cheapest price, then create an account at some online shop, fill out all your address details, then go and find your credit card and fill that in, then find out the shop is just a pfishing site to steal your credit card data and before you realise it your card has been maxed out by the con artists!
Its the same for Brexit Britain, its just too much hassle to go there, buy anything there, transport anything to/from there and they're not even that cheap in the first place! On top of that, Boris wants wages to go up which makes the UK even more expensive! It doesn't take a genius to work out global Britain isn't going anywhere fast!

Poland taking back control: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-58835758
Be interesting to see how that pans out.
Anyone keeping tabs on their coal fine? https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...a-day-ecj-fine
Hope that's being offset against the €57billion fund that's being withheld.

It's so tragic that I'm going have to overcome the shortages by doing the Christmas shopping in Spain.

I have the HGV class but no one has sent me a letter yet.

They big up the fact that millions of jobs are on offer, but they are largely jobs that immigrants used to do, which historically the UK turned their nose up to. Also, there's always lots of jobs available as the workforce is very transient, it doesn't mean the economy is booming. Still, blue passports, eh?

Government plans to change how frequently overseas HGV operators can deliver in the UK will "undercut" British operators and drivers, a haulage group has told Sky News

But you don't have any British drivers which is why you are begging for foreign ones so make your friggin mind up.

Gets extra clicks dunnit?
Historically, British haulage associations have always been against foreign drivers and hauliers operating in the UK. Back in the day they were heard citing claims of being undercut by using vehicles that don't comply with UK legislations, like Adblu systems bypassed, fiddling tacho hours and speed limiters (especially before discs were phased out) or running double fuel tanks so can do a EU to UK to EU run without filling up etc.
As well as questionable driving standard (cue youtube video of polish driver doing 80kmh whilst playing with phone and flattening over stationary vehicles ). Point I'm making here is the media (tabloids) are quick to point out nationality, but were coy about the specific employer (what's the saying about peanuts and monkeys?).
Of course I'm going back over ten years with some of this (pre 2014 for road taxes) so aware that the gap between UK and EU hauliers with modern/leased vehicles and driving standards has closed somewhat...but associations will still bang on about it.

You WANT to work for the lizard don't you? GTFO
You can always work remotely or maybe blag a snazzy relocation package to Prague
In seriousness most EU tech jobs are going to be distributed around Germany and maybe Eastern Europe ...unless they are dodging taxes in which case like their HQ, it will be in Ireland currently 159 open positions there...but 286 open positions in London! https://www.facebook.com/careers/loc...0Middle%20East
London's tech job employment is in shrinkage for a lot of reasons, but I'd guarantee most of those 'new' jobs (new, and not moving around existing staff), in facebook wouldn't be going to London anyway. Still they are employing more than ever in London...nearly 3000, which is a huge jump in employees in several years from the previous company accounts: https://find-and-update.company-info...pdf&download=0
Of course this news was announced by Nick Clegg, who will go wherever he's told to (like his former electorate did )

The Staropramen should taste better too.
Bought a bottle over in the UK and it tasted a bit, well, like Carling...meh! Looked on the label to find it had indeed been brewed in Burton on Trent. Burtonisation my ****, I don't care what they say, like the Belgium brewed Stella back in the day, it's not the same as the crap made in the Uk.
