I agree that is what should happen, but I think it is unlikely. Both parties have shrunk their memberships, and it would appear that the core is now made up of hard right and hard left, and those people are unlikely to return a centralist leader, to either party. The UK political scene is becoming more polarised, in a time where what is needed is central ground. I can't see how it is going to change in the near future.

Entirely agree that we need the country to managed from a centralist perspective...if the yellow team can produce a charismatic leader they may be in with a shot. Maybe.

You always expect a certain amount of BS from politicians...Trump is something else though, he just seems to pluck this crap out of the ether and believes what he says.

I notice this morning he has said that the NHS won't be on the table, which illustrates that he will say anything if he thinks it will improve his situation, or that he never really knew what the NHS was.......

Love this media talk about Trump and the NHS...like the NHS isn’t reliant on the USA in any shape or form ....

....I never knew the UK NHS did not use USA pharma, USA research, USA pioneered techniques/procedures, USA made equipment or equipment, treatment or drugs made under license that have USA patents.

Next time you have a CT scan have a look at who made the scanner....General Electric (likely a CT660)....didn’t know they were British

Yes, British subsidiaries of GE here in the UK to be precise. How do I know this? Because in March this year my wife was made redundant from GE Healthcare after 16 years who make these machines, develop these drugs HERE IN THE UK and manufacture them under license here in the UK. Do you know why she was made redundant? Because GE Healthcare are closing UK sites all over the place and reducing their footprint here in the UK while massively pulling things BACK to the US as a direct result of guess what.... Brexit.

Indeed, it is/was a UK employer, just like any other worldwide USA owned/managed conglomerate it will have overseas operations. And just like any economic downturn, or uncertainty (like Brexit), those operations will be under threat. It’s a sad state affairs where being in a two year limbo is costing people their jobs. Although before totally blaming Brexit outright , GE is struggling in the USA... over the past 20yrs its worth has shrank from $600billion to just $70billion so it’s no surprise its shrinking its world footprint.

Either way, the UK needs the USA in various areas, including the NHS...it can’t procure everything from within the EU, nor should it be forced to do so.

Does anyone remember the times when GE had a finger in pretty much every UK industry going? These days it seems be Siemens or some sort of Chinese alliance/investor.

I do totally agree, the UK sector for GE Healthcare had been on the decline for years and we'd been predicting this for some time, but Brexit was most certainly the nail in their coffin and end of play for my wife's job and some UK sites. Making drugs in the UK (Within the EU) and selling to the EU and worldwide requires certain certifications, standards etc, once we are out of the EU then they are just simply not allowed to sell those products without a complete re-certification and manufacturing change which proved too costly for some of their drug lines and product life cycles. GE raped what was worth saving (only a few lines) which they will take back to the US and manufacture there or another EU member state country like Norway whey they have manufacturing on a similar scale.

We do need foreign resource for our NHS, we need whatever resource is providing the latest technology and advances in medicine and medical care and that is not going to the the UK now with it's declining sectors. But there is no way our NHS should in any way be run or controlled or even partially owned by the US which is what Trump wants.

So, Labour have won the by-election in Peterborough! So much for the Brexit party winning 414 seats in a GE!

60/40 voted to Leave too.

Only half bothered to vote this time though , clearly not that important to them

Someone ought to tell him, divide and rule only really worked in the colonies.

And we don't have an empire any more!
