Quite, I can think of long list of politicians that have either lied, misled or outright broken pledges, promises or manifestos without any punishment (well, maybe Clegg who had his comeuppance when he lost his seat ).

Ironically, back then UK voters (as in the % people who do vote, not the public as a whole) were probably more pro EU or likely to side with poltical advice.

Furthermore I think this needs to go a hell of a lot deep than our own politicians...an inquest into the whole affair on what exactly was planned for the EU project back in 70’s, what was voted for and what transpired ought to be conducted...

Its fair to say that UK membership based on the 1975 referendum on whether or not to remain in what was then the European Economic Community (the EEC) was pitched to the British people as a “Common Market”. Although some warned at the time of movement towards a much larger political project, but was dismissed as untrue...clearly those that dismissed this were either very mistaken or making outright lies.

Also the ligitimacy and even the overall legality of amending previously ratified treaties to push forward on already failed/rejected treaties should be tested in court both in UK and worldwide courts.

don't get your hopes up too much. That figure is based on the European election result with the pitiful 37% turnout.

Now labour are supporting a second referendum I agree...and once Corbyn is ousted they can blame him for being pro-Brexit and then they will clean up with a centralist left leader.
