Have two threads been merged?! I wanted to apologise to two people I sort of insulted but didn't mean to ! They are great people but a good example of what on earth are we all arguing about?!

You could have asked how good was Edwina Instead of ******** the chicken lady, he should have been concentrating on matters of state- Maastricht !

Indeed, ineffective, split and leaderless government, ineffective an unelectable opposition, country about to crash, what else could possibly go wrong?

Still, we'll be able to make a cracking trade deal with Burkina Faso, I'm sure

How are we going to get a good trade deal with Burkina Faso without a hard border in Ireland? Without the hard border the duty free bracelets and seeds from the North can be smuggled to the South of Ireland easy. My trade is textiles, I import from Pakistan and sell in the UK and Ireland. If we crash out under WTO rules my goods would have 9.6% duty added in the UK, but be Duty free in ROI.

Perhaps one of the leave voters would care to respond?

If one country/part of a country applies duty and the other country/part of a country doesn't, then surely:

1. It's THAT country's problem, or the EU's, not ours, and,
2. It's up to them to police their border to stop what is, in effect, smuggling?

But it would be us imposing tariffs under WTO

That makes it our problem then, as its our duty to collect that duty under WTO rules.
And again we would have to police the border to stop cheaper goods being smuggled into our country.

Nope, it's down to us to define how we interact with the country that wishes to trade with us once we are outside the agreement previously defined by the EU.

Especially when the vote of confidence in his leadership by his own party members was a unanimous "No confidence".

But he just ignored it.

any remainers read article 24 ?
What people don't know, and what MP's don't want us to know about is this. Article 24 of the WTO says basically that the UK will be able to trade with the EU on the same trade terms as they are now for up to 10 years. No more freedom of movement, no more ECJ and no more EU budget contributions. We can do what we want, talk to who ever we want. This is something that JRM has been saying for months if not years. Share it with your fellow brexit supporting friends and family, and email your MP demanding that you want a no deal and why. after all its what we voted for just get the **** out

Have you read it?

The legal opinion that I have read on GATT 24 is that JRM is being very badly advised. You may need to rethink your whole position on Brexit, if it's based upon this.

this is what’s causing the issue over the Irish border as it needs a hard border to stop it but that is against the good Friday agreement. So the brexit opinion is it’s their problem

clearly not...particularly when Lamy has raised serious concerns about that approach.

The EU are arranging permits for airlines and hauliers I seem to remember that these werent possible without a deal or temporary transition being in place.

Yet with the likelihood of no deal, all is possible now, a mystery

Irish PM doesn't want a hard border in the event of no deal, he can only sees problems if UK's goods move away from current standards and not aligned with EU standards. Well that's not going to happen anytime soon. Surprise, Surprise

I hate to break it to you, but Emmanuel Macron won the French Presidential election by over 10 Million votes. If the French don't like what he's doing now, the one excuse they certainly can't easily trot out is that it's not what they asked for.

As for quoting Mosley as some kind of authority on the fundamental meaning of democracy, seriously???

Macron is doing exactly what he said he would do before the election. The French are getting exactly what they voted for. Speaking to my French friends, what he's doing is really needed reforms, his main failure is the lack of communication explaining why they are necessary.

Mosley was a ****, hardly an appropriate person to quote defending an issue that essentially comes down to immigration. Next you'll be quoting Göbels and Hitler and maybe you might want to get the incinerators warmed up!

the quoting of mosley has nothing to do with immigration just pointing out imho IF VOTING MADE ANY DIFFERENCE they wouldn't let us do it
