I think it's more to do with most top end phones are that good it's hard to make an upgrade worth bothering with. I still have an iPhone 6 and that's more than good enough as it has 128gig storage. I think storage, battery life and a screen that won't smash would be top on my list for a new phone.

Same, I might skip the next one as well, new camera might sway it.

It shows spending in R&D ramping up nicely and shows how spending $100 billion extra is ridiculous.
Yes, that graph is an excellent example and doesn't do any favours for Apple. They're pouring billions into R&D and not seeing the returns they used to; compare the R&D expenditure when Jobs was still running Apple to what the returns are now under Cook. Their spending in R&D is focused in the wrong area. Apple Watch is a prime example of Apple follow the wearable tech crowd and not innovating. I'm no Apple fanboy, though I've owned an iPhone 4, 5 and currently a 6. But if the iPhone 7 is meh, I think I gonna look at Samsung's line up, notably the S7 edge, or the LG G5. The only thing that held me back is the quality of apps in their respective stores and the difference between iOS and Android apps have narrowed significantly.

The market for mobile technology is pretty much saturated, everyone who can afford one has one, be it phones or tablets and the competition is pretty fierce. People are suffering Apple fatigue, people are not upgrading their iDevices as regularly as they used to as the upgrades are too minor and lack innovation. Product innovation is no longer the sole driver to maximising profits and big corporates such as Apple are looking other ways of making money. They aren't the only tech firms operating a buyback program, Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle, IBM etc are building up massive debts in borrowing billions to fuel this programme. You say spending $100bn in R&D is ridiculous but what about building up hundreds of billions of dollars in debts when revenue is and market share is declining?

You should have a word with my mate Warren, it's unlike him to make mistakes he'll appreciate your sound advice.

Well on that news you should follow your own advice and get buying before you miss the boat! Though the decision to buy AAPL was not his decision.

Tell you that did he? Anyhow, if you were a braver man than me and bought on Friday you'd have made a lot more than bank interest by today. What I'm not seeing is your predicted implosion.

No he didn't tell me, CNBC told me. I'm not allowed to buy and sell any stocks unless I can be bothered to go through all the compliancy forms and approvals and I can't be bothered. And also nowhere did I predict an implosion anywhere, that's just in your own head. What I'm not seeing is you practicing what you preached, still not too late, you can still pile in if you're that confident with AAPL.

Apple has continually been in the Ice age regarding tech and still charging top dollar for products. I got a Note 5 a year ago and even that leaves the IPhone 6 for dust.

Let alone the new Samsung Devices like the Note 7 and Edge 7.

Samsung has huge faciliteies and the engineering skills to make these devices and don't rely on third parties. They also are using OLED technology which is eveident with the recent curved displays, soon this can be completely bendable phones.

Apple have hoodinked far too many people by now but for how much longer will they realise getting locked into the Apple Eco system is restricting them to over priced under developed phones.

nonsense, Knox is as secure as anything from Apple plus Google itself has multiple layers of encryption and the authenticator app is a fool proof way or not letting anyone else access your device.

What I'm smelling is Fandroid bull****. Why would Samsung make their latest device perform massively worse than their old device?

For what it's worth I quite like the screens on the latest Samsungs, but the performance sacrifice is too much.

Have to agree with you their mate! I like the screen size but I find the performance very fiddly and very slow compared to an iPhone. And I hate all the little noises they make aswell...but fair do's to people
Who own one...it's their choice and I won't begrudge them

Then I might be waiting until 2017
Showing the gulf in class between apple and Samsung. Curved displays (with far higher density than an iphone) were out in 2016 Samsung devices. The 2017 Note 7 has dual edged curved displays.

My missus has an iphone. Looking at her use it is painful. Sending texts and doing mundane things takes several button presses.

Compared to Android where 2 presses of the home button brings you to the camera and previous apps are easily accessible with the left button.

Androids are far easier to customise plus offer superior support for all types of media files. Playing full HD movies on my Note 5 with its display (incidentally being called the best smart phone display ever in a cnet report in 2015) simple embarrasses the iphone with huge gaps on the device that looks like a picture frame.

You should consider a new career, look at the price of this!!! http://www.wired.co.uk/article/samsung-galaxy-note-7

And it's operating system is out of date!! Doesn't bode well for the future.

Its still cheaper than the top spec yester-year iPhone 6s Plus which retails at £789. You can pre-order a sim free Note 7 for £699.95

I doubt Apple will make the next device slower and the current one is faster than the Note 7. And it will definitely have the latest operating system. Pretty outrageous that Samsung can release an outdated device and you fandroids lap it up, such marketing victims.

sweet talk considering Apple is still to use fast charging (or provide charge cables for it), or wirelss charging or displays anywhere near the resolution or tech that Samsung offer, and still charge top dollar for products that people like you gladly snap up.

As for the Nougat update, this will be rolled out gradually across Android devices usually starting with Nexus ones.

Apple are not great at upgrades either mind you.

classic eh.
