Apple ruining small businesses
Okay, just so we're clear
Apple don't have a definitive statement on this
And I am still unclear whether this error 53 - that bricks the phone (apparently there are other causes of the error)
Allows you to get your data back - as I said, this to me is the crux, phones can be replaced, data can't

you cant even change ring tone you already own ,not bought from apple , without a "quick" 16 stage process involving pugging it into a mainframe computer. Things drving me mad
I can take a song in my library and make it a ring tone in about 30 seconds, I'm sure if you focus the energy you put into posting drivel on here you can do it too.
Jack, do you only ever talk condescendingly to people on here. I am sure you do not talk to people on the street or in the pub who you dont know in the same manner. If you did I am sure you would be force fed your own kneecaps.
Look at it objectively.
What data does an iphone (or any other phone for that matter) generally hold independently of any third party app?

All of which are easily backed up to a computer or the cloud. It even backs up itself. Is that so hard to do?
Is it not common sense to regularly back up the data?
Anyone with half a brain backs up their data before running an OS upgrade. In which case a bricked phone could be repaired and the data recovered.
Mails, music & most other messenger apps are either hosted externally or have their own in house cloud based backup.
There are far more common ways to lose that data than by a phone bricking because of a third party repair being incompatible with the os.

People who lose data are generally dumb or lazy. And my sympathy is extremely limited in those cases.
I treat people the same way they treat me, simple.
No. As soon as some one, regardless of who says anything anti-apple then you resort to implying anything they say or do is "waste of time. waste of energy. drivel" etc etc then you tell them to "walk along" or "stop posting" like it is your thread or forum.
You're making that up. I tell you what, I'll post a positive thread about Apple, what sort of reaction do you think I'll get. I will correct people if they're wrong, that is all.

why should you be forced to keep everything online
Normal user - Bought an i-product and i like the way it works.
Jack - bought an i-product. I like it a lot. Once again proves Apple are way ahead of anything else.
You know why you add the final sentence.
Jack, you are not a fool and you know clearly what you do....

I don't know what you expect, there's certainly no need for me to post negative news regarding Apple, there's plenty of people here that will post if someone farts in the Apple office. So I'd say that I add balance.

yes I agree to a point, although I am sure some people don't like storing everything in the cloud (and they should not be forced to imo - I do, I don't give a fvck btw)- but I don't think any of this absolves Apple of at least informing you of the facts
which seems to be that you will/may lose all the data on your phone if you undertake a 3rd parry repair
and some people are dumb - Apple seem to be unnecessarily punishing them for it though
Whichever way you look at it, this is a massive embarrassment and fail for Apple. Either the new phone lock-out they've added in the new software is completely OTT and just a thinly-disguised excuse to punish customers who dared take business away from so-called authorized repairers, or the old software wasn't doing its job properly and was exposing customers to an inexcusable security hazard.
