Anyone else hate Porsches?

I agree - the kudos is a strange phenomenon.
Whilst mine's only a Carrera 4, it gets nothing but positive comments and experiences.
Wife & I can go out and park pretty much without fear of issues.
It's also been the topic of conversation at petrol stations with both drivers and bikers (even had one elderly chap follow me in to a car-park just to pull up and talk about the car!)
There's also a bizarre perception of elevated status - surprising how many business contacts and networking opportunities have been generated through car (certainly wouldn't have had the same experience in the Subaru, sorry)
I will agree that it takes a while to get to grips with as whilst it's quite torquey, and has 320-odd bhp (mine's modded so it's a bit more), it IS normally aspirated, and the power delivery is completely different. (I had 2 modded Scoobs, a modded Audi S4 Avant, and a modded mk5 Golf GTI).
But get it to rev, and the engine sound is epic - I loved my scoobs with their Scoobysport full decats, but this is just a nice, albeit different.
Where the 911 shines (imho) is the driver experience: get it set up right (the geo is quite sensitive), and as I explained to my Dad the one day, you can "feel" the road through steering wheel - I know it sounds like a cliche, but it's true.
TBH, I want to keep mine, and the only reason I'll move out of it is to (a) give it to the Wife - she loves the car. (b) move up to a 997 Turbo, or (c) turn it in to a weekend car whilst I have a weekly hack (RS4 Avant appeals at the moment). Option D is that I realise my next goal - a Ferrari or a Lambo.
The next car, whatever it is, will have mighty big shoes to fill In the meantime, it keeps appreciating in value - almost free motoring so far

Most (nearly all) std models look cheap, have **** engines, are over rated, poor spec from standard and people always comment on what class of people drive them.......
Doesn't read that great.. But that's imprezas for you
I'd have a Porsche any day of the week.. No comparison really

I absolutely love them. The only problem is the first one I ever drove was a 997 GT3 then a year or so later the guy who owned it swapped for a 997 Turbo and I drove that too - although I didn't much like the tiptronic gearbox in that.
More recently I test drove a 997.2 Turbo with PDK and that was amazing. Just wish I could have swapped my E92 M3 for it at the time but I couldn't cut a deal. In the end I traded for a new M4 but now I really want a 911 and the prices have gone mad..
Last year I tested a 991 CS and Boxster S but they seemed a bit tame with lack of torque (as expected I suppose with being used to the M4s enormous torque) but I've obviously been spoilt with driving the GT3 and Turbo .
This year I will hopefully be getting a drive in a 991 GT3 and that's gunna make me want to sell the house ffs

I have a 911 c4 cab and its a nice car to cruise around in in summer, it has 4 seats and three that are usable when I drive so I can take the kids out but in terms of power it has none and you can feel all of that weight at the back. I like the 4 seats but in terms of balance and road feel its pretty average. I think the M5 would do a good job of keeping up on a twisty road and in terms of power ..........

Was that a 996 C4 automatic by any chance?
I drove one of them a while back. It was more of a cruiser than bruiser, completely ruined by the slushbox; The long and wide spaced gear ratios don't suit the engine. Its a ZF 5HP18/20 gearbox; Same as that found in e39/e46 BMWs which also have similar issues below 60mph
Oh and the brown interior option...Yuk..whats that all about? Workmate calls the colour dogsh*t brown LOL.

just make sure it's a 997.2 (the problems were sorted out by then - same engine is in the 991)
OR go for a 997.1 if you're going to S/charge it, strip and strengthen at the same time
Check out 911uk.com for more info (or Renntech/rennlist)

I like Porsche's, but generally only the Turbo, S and GTX models. Entry level cars generally strike me as overly conservative and often lacking in performance compared to other cars in their peer group. A basic 996 or 997 911 isn't particularly fast, for example.
The current 911 Turbo S is mental quick, this month's EVO (mine landed today) has 0-150mph in 10mph increments and the 911 virtually bends time
So there are many Porsche's I wouldn't have a several I would. However, there is one major beef I have with nearly all modern Porsche's.....gearing. The, "let's get great Ring times but to hell with any other scenario" gearing where 3rd extends well into 3 figures just annoys the crap out of me. I could understand it if you were knocking on the door of 500-600bhp with monster torque to boot, but we are talking 350bhp Boxter's and Cayman's that have two legal gears with the rest being purely pointless.

Yes managed to get it in NI. I was looking for about 14 months and saw a couple of rough ones. There are not many about over here.
You should try to hold on to yours it looks mint and such low mileage.
