What I find odd about Apple devices is their reluctance to charge if attached to a non Apple plug.

As long as they use the same as everyone else natively, that's fine. Supplying an adapter to micro-USB isn't really good enough, they shouldn't have been allowed to get away with it.

I haven't found a single correctly rated USB plug that failed to charge an iPhone.

Prime example. Who's lead should Apple follow regarding chargers? We're taking about 1 change of charger in a decade, so who hasn't changed their charger in 10 years?

You might want to check the different chargers for different MACs, the PC world hasn't changed the power for 30+ years .. kettle lead all the way and before you quote different laptops have different charges .. they tend to be from different companies.
Your argument about labour is mind numbing you both accept Apples lies and what's worse, you justify it by saying well other companies do it..
