The thing is though, you are paying only £2 a month less than someone with a phone line and up to 76mb unlimited broadband. So having no phone line rental fee isn't much of a bonus, if any, in your case.

£20 + £2 = £22 round here not £48

£30/mth
+ £17.99 /mth line rental
12 month contract

Now I'm sure you can get a half price 'deal' of some sort, but come on.

Figures taken from a website no doubt but not the real world prices possible over the phone.

So yeah, come on.

People rely more and more on mobile devices but they are no where near as reliable as a land line to your house.
Wifi hotspots are not as good as being made out to be, more users = less bandwidth, same with distance, to the wifi hotspot, further out the higher the latency and the less bandwidth you will get.
You also have the issue of the elements and disruption due to objects, then you have higher bandwidths which are faster but dont go far v slower but have a greater range. Now introduce weather and it starts going to pot.

It doesnt mean its a bad system, it is the way forward for mobile connectivity but you cannot rely on it as your only means of communication, its best to have both, especially in rural area's or if you want broadband to the home.

What needs to change are the packages offered to customers, its a slower process for fixed line to move forward than it is for wifi/mobile but the technology normally lasts much longer on fixed.

I hear that it's all Catch 22. If you change your supplier/service provider, the benefit could be short-lived. If you stay with the same supplier/service provider, you could be paying through your @rse for then, but when you end up with some other company, they drop their prices less than your new choice of company.

Basically, you, as a consuming customer, are a yoyo or a ping pong to your service providers, if you consider the situation on blanket level.

Thats because the welsh governent are funding it i know the fibre lads are work saturday and sunday to get up to speed with FTTC in wales, last conference i was at it was a good few years until g.fast was out other than in the trial areas so looks like you have benifited from the welsh government again, i know in england openreach are tied up in FTTC and would like to be doing g.fast.
I live in a town and still have no FTTC, but of course openreach have to go the profit msking areas first to survive as a company
