and that is a good point - but so often it is the way the US behaves

trying to export its "coke loving democracy" to the rest of the world

ironic really

Well, most of them hunt for sport, not food, so you could argue there isn't even any need for them.

Obviously a thing of opinion, but I don't think people should be shooting animals for fun in the 21st Century.

I suppose there is a case for pest control and population control, but I doubt much of it is down to that.

All that said, by god, I would love to go to the Oklahoma full auto one year!

You wouldn't liken British, Spanish, Greek, German and French cultures, and likewise urban DC is very different from rural Nebraska, from small town South Carolina, from suburban Boston.

Not everybody exercises the right to bear arms but there's a fierce passion to defend that right. Judging a foreign culture by your own values is never a good idea IMHO.
In the place where the ignorance blatantly resides in abundance, this is one very wise post I've seen here over the years.

how much less tortuous ( and more entertaining ) would it be for the various EU differing factions to slug it out barrel to barrel , one morning prime time tv

leave us the rest life to think about something useful

The msn article you've provided the link to just bangs on about the perpetrator and his act. I question the appalling security checks at the airport. How come he was allowed a gun is his baggage??

Hi,
Guns are allowed in checked luggage.
As the shooting was reported near to the baggage carousel - I assume he picked up his luggage that contained a gun, had some sort of argument and then started shooting.
I never forget my first trip to the USA in 1990 and my shock at seeing signs behind checkin counters that reminded people to ensure that their guns and ammo were put into checked luggage and not hand baggage!
Cheers
Steve

Yes, just heard on the news they it was in the main luggage, and after picking his luggage from that conveyer belt thing, he went into the toilet or something and loaded it. He's believed to be mentally ill ex-army.

Whilst back here in Blighty we have to fill up a form in triplicate and wait a month if we feel dissatisfied with the service

Don't know, Duncan. I don't have a gun, so never have had to carry one in my baggage on my flight, so I have no idea how many forms one needs to fill, and how long it takes for your request to get rejected.

Well, unless you're talking about something totally different? In that case, what are you talking about, Dunc?

And I think that on internal US flights baggage claim is accessible by anyone, - like picking up luggage from a coach depot in the UK
