We've become a world of self-obsessed/"selfie" taking people....

I know people who take several pictures of themselves everyday and post it on this that and the other (I don't see the point of instagram at all)
Sounds like a great place you visited though!

Serious question: Why take a photo of a scene/building/etc that has no-one in it? i.e. take a picture of a building, there are literally thousands already on the internet and many probably better than you could ever take yourself.

IMHO, it's a simple case that with "everybody" craving their 15 mins of fame, in order to feel good about themselves, the selfie is the ideal outlet.
I personally don't have an issue with it.
Tbh, the only selfies I've taken are usually at my own expense - don't really take my appearance seriously at all

Yes, I don't get this either

I hate selfies as I'm self conscious and don't like how I look. I have probably had my picture taken less that 10 times in the past 5 years. I did take one selfie lately just to embarrass my little sister on Facebook lol

If you're not the same chap, sorry for getting mixed up, man.

I think it's also keeping up appearances - if all your mates are posting how wonderful their lives are (whilst conveniently not updating everyone with their dodgy knee, their broken relationship, etc.) then you must do the same or risk not being talked about!

What's the point in going to watch a race when you can watch much better coverage back at home on your TV. Why go to the zoo when you can look at pictures of animals and learn about them via the Internet.
Seriously, that's a pretty dumb thing to say and wonder.

That's really stupid and could be said about a lot of things? You're telling me you've never taken a camera with you on holiday to take snaps of the places you've visited? You have never shared photo's with family or friends that show an interest to where you've been? It's nice to have your own set of photos to show people.

For example,
I took this picture with my camera in the South of the country, a while ago:
I took this one yesterday with my iPhone5 when I was walking my imaginary dog in my local:
Now they may seem pretty boring and meaningless to most people, because never mind a human, not even a building is in them, to show for. But these pictures have some meaning to me, which I may feel free to share with the world in a non-verbal way. If there are many better ones of the similar sort floating about, my crappy ones will also float about with them like some rejects, and disappear into the depth of obscurity quite sharpish, I don't mind.
LSh, your ceiling picture is very interesting to me. I've never seen that myself, so thanks for sharing it and enlightening with what you have seen out there.

Makes the photo more personal, otherwise its just another picture of a mountain, building, river, coastline etc
That's what postcards are for

Photography is personal like tv, music, wine or art, if you like it...then it's good.
I bought a selfie stick in Hong Kong when I'd not seen them over here.....it was fun for a bit.

The world getting self obsessed.............definitely.
Watch any football match & you will see about 50 people taking a picture of the back of a footballers head when he takes a corner and numerous people talking on their mobile phones.
Why can't people just go to an event or visit somewhere & take in the whole experience?

Then we have 'who sucked you off' thread here, to dispute that. People seem highly 'spirited' there, I have to say.

I love taking photos when I go on my travels (not so many these days). It's nice to have a personal reminder of a trip, and I don't need to put myself or the other half etc on it as I don't think my memory of what we look like will fade. Neither of us really like our photo taken anyway, so some nice shots of where we've been will do.

Thank you, but whose? LSh's or one of the useless boring ones I posted?
By the way, have you figured it out how to use Photobucket now, and let me see the pics of your Mad Max and Jasper? To be honest with you, I'm surprised that you've forgotten how to upload pics, as you would have uploaded your replica watch pics for that 'watch' thread. But never mind, it's dead easy to get back into. Look forward to them.
