That's a really good point actually. It's a long time since I gave it a thrashing on the road

Exige S is likely to be my next car, but pushing the Impreza to ~400bhp first (it's being worked on right now) and I've already thrown a few grand at the chassis.

I aim to do 5-6 track days per year, and the Impreza is also my daily. If/when I go for an Exige - it'll be alongside a car I use for daily driving as they're NOT comfortable cars

Being honest though, I feel like I'd struggle to match/beat the Impreza's performance for less than £20k, so I may end up keeping the scoob for some time to come.

Agree Kyle, and this my dilemma too. I've had the old girl for nealy eight years ( the Scoob not our lass ) and whenever I think about a change I struggle to find a replacement. What's in the pipeline for yours? Sounds like you've been loosening the purse strings again.

I think I gathered from your post history that you've only just started trackdays in the Impreza? If that's the case, I really would recommend hanging onto it for another summer at least.

This year I've been away a lot (6 months total) but on almost every weekend I was home, I went to Blyton Park. Over the year the seconds have been tumbling from my time (without any modifications to the car) and I seem to unlock chunks of potential from the car every time I go out.

I started collecting the parts for my ~400bhp setup before this year started, and in hindsight I would probably have kept the car the same for another year... but you know how it is!

If I switched to an Exige tomorrow, I think I'd really struggle to get close to the lap times of my Impreza purely because the Impreza is setup so "safe" and I can really push on without fear of the car biting, it really does flatter me. The Exige I imagine to be a much more engaging drive with a higher ceiling for "good driving", so I'll probably graduate if/when I get bored of the Impreza, knowing that I'll have given up a much better road car!

With any luck the Impreza will end up a keeper of a daily, with an Exige toy in the garage

It's with Andy now. HS 20G turbo going on (it's had a billet comp wheel too) with GT Spec headers, HS Uppipe, ID1000s, Crapspeed FMIC, AEM FPR, RCM Cone, Oil cooler, catch can... oh, and after two weeks of Andy trying to pursuade me, the Aircon has gone too

Nice one. I'm up at Andy's tomorrow. Getting some arb bushes done and taking the lads some goodies for Christmas.

If you like Imprezas and want to get more into track work I'd go for a twinscroll spec C or RA. There's very little you'd have to or want to do to one of them.

Supercharged S2000s are rapid! I actually made money on mine when I sold it, £500 but it was a profit after owning it for 1.5 years and putting around 10,000 miles on it. S2000s always split well too, if you were to remove the SC kit and sell as a standard car.

Here's my old beast -

Rotrex SC kit c.335bhp
Carbon Mugen front bumper
18" Rotas
Brembo BBK

I think it may be for sale again as I was offered it back.

Nick.

Well I'd decided it was a close call between an E39 M5 (wanted one for ages) and then a modified E46 M3. Then I decided that the E46 would need a lot doing to it to get it how I want it (brakes, coilovers etc - Ive been told they're heavy and soft as standard). And then I decided it was an M5. Then people say they're not suitable for track work!
Thought I'd found a perfect car and Im starting to think it doesnt exist for less than £20,000!

Starting to think the car that fits my requirements is actually the car I have....

That is so nice!!!

Confused again! Lol.

Think I just need to get my arches rolled buy some 18s for the STI!

As of tomorrow Im off work, so I'm planning to drive it as little as possible over Xmas. Hopefully that will re-ignite the spark!

For a great track day car, what about an Evo 9 ?

In standard form they handle better than an STi and even better with some Eibach lowering springs. You can get a standard one up to about 400bhp for about £1600,plus an FQ is a better spec car, electric folding mirrors and rear wiper.

Downsides....not as nice to be in even compared to an STi,day to day, driving to work, popping to the shops etc a bit boring because of the way it delivers the power.6 speed gearbox is weak, standard clutches are crap and they rust like hell.I had mine undersealed after I seen a guys 07 9 MR,I was shocked that an 07 car would be that bad.

There's an M5 on Autotrader, the last of the E39s, Le Mans Blue, '03 plate, 67k and looks a great example, just a shame it's well over your budget at £15995. There are a few 01s ranging from 10-15k, but I'm guessing wood trims aren't your thing?

Just the rough ones?... I've decided to keep my car for another twelve months or so.
