Don't think after reading Subaru forums for 7 years ever seeing a Classic with decent MPG returns. 6 speed on a classic will add a bit of weight and transmission loss so the car may do less than other mid 90's Classics. Good chance of under 20mpg.

Can you remember the Wagon's fuel usage when driving off-boost?

Shes a 4ft10 midgit mate, she hated driving the scooby due to attention she got as it was loud and nearly new at the time. Since then weve had a Orange ST which she wanted re-sprayed but liked the drive. I now have a modded blue RS which she likes apart from again the noise and attention it gets.

She sounds just like my ex lol
Would rather cover her head than be seen in a car that stands out. She would rather have her 1.0 x-reg polo over most cars

My wife rejoiced when I sold my blue Subaru with gold wheels for the hatch.

So a couple of years later to go alongside it I bought a blue one with gold wheels, no sound proofing and suspension twice as hard

She's been out in it a couple of times and was quite amused by it, I think if it was our daily driver/family car she'd have filed for a divorce but it's not a car I drive for anything other than my own pleasure, usually on my own or with friends.

It's where I understand the point of the WRX, it's a pretty sensible car in many respects with a turn of pace - a bit like the GTI is a nice overall compromise across several areas.

WRX wins every time, and by some margin. Increasing the power in the STI will only make launching trickier.

I don't know how many more links and timeslips I have to post to prove the WRX is considerably faster.

Evo magazine 1/4 test

437/390 RCM Bug STI 12.5
333/307 Blobeye WRX 12.6
400/360 Gforce 3 12.7
350/356 2005 Type 25 STI 12.8
355/335 Gforce 2 12.8
335/280 2004 Spec C STI 13.0
330/330 TSL 333 STI 13.6
305/298 MY04 STI PPP 13.7s - Subaru claim 13.4 lol.
316/310 WR1 13.7s

Tommy and other STI fanboys will claim driver skill for the consistently quicker WRX 1/4 times but ironically he and many others have ridiculed my launching technique, granny shifting and budget tyres!
What it looks like to me is the sti doesn't have very long 2nd & 3rd gears and is probably in 4th by 80mph.too many gear changes slows them down.
The gears on my car do approximately:
1st-40 2nd-70 3rd-95 4th-125 5th-unknown? I've maxed the clock at 160mph and it was still pulling..
Maybe most wrx's cross the line in 3rd or by only just having to change into 4th?

You say 2013, the computer says no. (2012)

Plus genuine question, you've said before that you have a uk car but have a roof vent, do some uk cars come with roof vents or is it a mod?

Busted. I think he is actually running about the 430bhp mark and has been for some time, Oh as well as his car being a fake wide track with a burger flap, he tried to sell it about a year ago and got no takers.

P.s, I had all this with him and his mates on here a couple of years ago, about the 0-60 and the WRX being faster to circa 80mph, he wriggled and squirmed but in the end the facts about the lighter car with longer gears and smaller turbo finally got through to him, it did take a while mind and there were quite a few raised eyebrows and red faces.

The STI doesn't really make sense anymore even if your into modding because all of the bits that supposedly make it "better" need changing or major work now they're 10yrs plus old. With new forged engines costing £2/3k and 6 speeds at less than £2k you can have a 650bhp capable set up for the cost difference between the WRX and STI, at the end of the day if your really into modding it's better to start off with the cheapest base car you can find.

The argument for an STI is dwindling rapidly as they age and head towards a 100k miles.

What a load of rubbish. Even if you could get a forged engine for £2/3k and a gearbox for £2k you're already well over the price differential between a WRX and a STi. You then need to factor in all other components to run 650bhp. Turbo, injectors, FMIC, rotated kit, headers, exhaust, air filter, fuel pump, clutch and although, the WRX's milk bottle tops are the best thing since sliced bread, you would definitely need to bigger brakes at that power. Which would also mean you probably need a better shaped wheel to clear them.

Matt, I can't be bothered to find the post about the STi brakes having more rotational mass, which I don't disagree with, but do you seriously think it makes a 'dramatic difference to acceleration in the real world'???

*Sigh* You STI fanboys are so blinkerd

All of the parts you've listed above would need changing on an STI too. And I didn't say I'd be running 650bhp I said "Capable" I have a £4k 54 plate Wagon that came with AP 4 pots, I'm currently sourcing parts for a 650bhp "Capable" CDB 2.1 stroker which will come in at £3k or UNDER I know this because I have been pricing parts.

Initially I'll be running it at around the 300/320 mark with a hybrid TD04 probably for a couple of years, so just a bigger fuel pump and some 650cc injectors required for future proofing and a re-map probably by Pat @ SC.

That set up will dust much more powerful STI's and leave them needing a full respray just like tubbs.

Then at some un-known point in the future when I no longer require the practicality of the Wagon I'll put that lot into my Type R and go a little further power wise, Possibly fitting a 6 speed too, but will decide on that as and when, but they are regularly up for sale at under £2k.

HTH.

Exactly. If it were purely my choice, there are a couple of spec c ra blobs fairly local well within budget, but impractical for the missus to use. A subtle looking hatch STI would be tempting if the engines weren't such a time bomb.
Local roads are shyte, WRX suspension copes well, certainly wouldn't want the ride much harder around here and couldn't put up with them knocking all the way down the road as the STI shocks are prone to do.

I don't feel the need to slag off owners of a sport, or a gx or whatever, because I haven't got an inferiority complex. Maybe, just maybe, the fact that some STI owners feel the need says more about their character than they realise.
Can only imagine how inferior they feel when the f430 or whatever [insert any of the numerous cars that are better than an STI here] pulls up beside them at the lights. They must cry all the way home.

But you said "you can have a 650bhp capable 'set up', (not just engine), for the price differential between the WRX and STI." That is implying that it would be a standard STI against a 650bhp capable WRX

I'm in 4th when I cross the line. I think I change to 3rd at about 60mph. I think a modded STI when launched gets a bit of wheel spin in that short 1st, more often than not hits the limiter and I think the heavy transmission and higher rotational mass from the bigger disks and clutch (flywheel bigger?) etc does affect power at the wheels.

my 306 diesel was off the road for a bit so I had to use the Impreza for about a month doing 132 miles a day in it... Average it cost me was about £25 a day and that is driving off boost staying under 2.5k revs, and not going over 60mph. If I was running late for work and had to drive faster then it would rise to almost £30 a day, but that's with sitting in traffic too. If your looking to get economy out of an Impreza just forget it, it isn't gonna happen. That month I must of spent about £700 on fuel alone..

Just save up a few hundred quid and get a little pug diesel. Mine only cost me £300 but the money its saving me is unreal.

yes now compare the pictures as remember it was bought already modded.

ill start you off

one has fmic,one doesnt.
one has aerocatches,one doesnt.
one has black headlights, one has chrome

so if matt and his mate are correct the car was bought ready modded so surely it cant be same car

so either someone is making stuff up to suit the argument or its not the same car

I don't buy a car for mpg, damm I'd get an electric car if that's the case.
don't see nothing wrong with looking on fuel consumption- put a race fuel than
why you buy cheap race seats instead some proper from sparco or better brands if money is no issue
