However not forgetting that holy crap that new Merc is seriously fugly!

Adaptive is more a requirement on the xDrives as they don't have MSport suspension (on the MSport that is). Yes its a big car and you feel its weight over the E92, but for me I needed an estate (not the size of a 5 series) and the F31 series offered what I wanted from the car in terms of tax, mpg, power, 4wd and options. Maybe could have got a last of the line E91 but my god the boots are tiny and I filled up my F and a roofbox now we have a little 'un!

If I wasn't buying an MSport xDrive but an sDrive I wouldn't spec adaptive.

Does anybody actually go into the showroom and hand over £28k of their own money for a Mondeo?

Not that there's anything wrong with them, Nice big comfy quiet saloon, I liked mine.

No one pays (or should be paying) full price for a 318d either

The old boy has just picked up a fairly well spec'd 330d Msport on a 64 plate with 3 miles on the clock for £31k

A few years ago BMW used to consider themselves to be a cut above the rest and you were thought to be buying into exclusivity hence the thought of discounts and deals were frowned upon.
Move on a few years to nowadays and Mercedes and BMW are as common as muck and are willing to do deals left right and centre.

I wounder if they still make a big deal about things when you buy a new car. I can remember when the local BMW dealership would bring your car down in a glass lift and it would be driven to a pose in the middle of a pristine white room with just you and the car, the only thing that was missing was the fanfare.

Trumpet fanfare sound effect (music bite):

I just picked mine up in the pi55ing rain! Good handover but not cover or anything.
But I did get £6k off the list price for my own factory ordered car.

Which was nice.

Update:

Just found out the boot is almost as useless the boot on my old Monaro. Obviously folding seats are a extra. But is it me or has the boot on 3 series saloons got smaller? And more notably, the opening aperture?

I mean the e90 seemed bigger/less awkward and e46 was bigger AND the e46 had space for a spare wheel too. This thing has a smaller boot and no space for a spare yet the car has bigger external dimensions. WTF?

I got 22% off my 330xd, which equated to over 10k. Car was in immaculate condition in a quiet corner of their showroom with lights all on it, (also had a child a week before collection) they also supplied a bottle and champagne and massive bouquet of flowers for the wife. Fantastic service and a thoroughly pleasant experience.

As for the boot, on my F31 its about 35 litres bigger than the E91. However its quite small compared to an Octavia which is 100 litres bigger still, but I don't want a Skoda!

I honestly find my M135i boot pretty much as useful as my E91 one; I think it's the shape.
Fold the seats down and I can fit shed loads in it.
The mk7 Golfs we had as courtesy cars had much shallower, awkward boots.
3 series Tourings are more slightly extended hatches than estates; the boot in the 64 plate Passat estate we had too was flipping enormous in comparison.

I find saloon and saloon derived coupe boots (we had a 420d too for a week!) utterly, hatefully useless.

I really have no desire to ever own a saloon or saloon derived faux coupe. Stupid design.

Definitely looks good. Just not great to drive; bit of a big, floaty barge.

Ran it through on Drive the Deal (at that time they were quoting BMW but its on and off their site often!!), went to my local dealer who got within 2k of that, but didn't like the attitude so emailed a few other dealers in the area to see if they could do better. Ended up about 500 quid shy of the DTD price but IMHO was worth it for the personal dealer touch.

There were (and still are) some big discounts on F30's and F31's. They were definitely trying to hit targets though as I ordered 11th May and they got it ready for collection 14th June (obviously trying to hit mid year sales targets).

Discounts on the F32's, GC's and GT's are much less.
