It's been way too long
I loved the bit where two stacked iPad Air 2's were thinner than an iPad and 180x more powerful. That my friends is true progress.
I'm hoping at least a few of you noticed Passbook's key role, this is the same Passbook that one member dragged up as something I was wrong to be enthusiastic about, any comment now that it will quite likely be the most used payment system in the world?

Previously Passbook only stored loyalty cards. Now it stores credit and debit cards, well done Apple, you've finally caught up with Google Wallet.
As to it being the most used payment system in the world, sure it could if everyone has an iPhone 6 and every outlet signs up to Apple Pay, but cash is gonna be pretty hard to beat. But credit where it's due, Apple have an uncanny way of changing the fanboi's consumer behaviour.

One of the big things to think about is that the US is just getting around to adopting chip and pin (EVM is what I think they call it), and it's the main focus in 2015. As this means updating existing terminals and installing them it makes sense for a launch of Apple Pay.
The Apple Watch also plays into this too. It would be far more convenient to wave your watch over a payment terminal than to pull out your phone and tap it.
I really can't believe even your average yank is gullible enough / going to be coerced into handing over 800 dollar for the phone and then another 300 just so they can make a purchase without cash
Then again...
Then again...

I hid my cashpoint card under my iPhone the other day in McDonalds, asked if they accepted Apple Pay yet and was told no, kid freaked out when I payed with a swipe of my phone.
Don't know . I prefer proper food myself.
I was taken into one the other day, first time for about 5years. Plastic food and ghastly yank feel

Yes , our camera shop here has now actually closed down, after 50 years...

Apple can directly take the blame for that if you like, nowadays everybody must accept a homogenised caricature

How many people actually use google wallet though? (not trolling, actually curious)

To be honest I have no idea how many people use Google Wallet since it is predominantly used in the US, and it would probably be fair to say that it hasn't had the traction in the payments market that Google would have liked otherwise we'd hear more about it over here.
Apple Pay has potential and no doubt will be a major player in the payment systems market. But as it stands it only provides minor improvement in convenience when paying for items in a store; you pull out your phone and pay instead of pulling your wallet out and then pulling out your card. Also remember, Apple Pay does not allow you to make purchases in online stores, which arguably is a bigger and growing market than conventional retail. The way I see it, everyone can pay with cash, nearly everyone has a debit/credit card, and either are widely accepted in stores and online. That can't be said for Apple Pay and only available for those with iPhone6/Watch and only in stores that support Apple Pay. Banks gave people cards and the means to be able use them, unless banks start handing out iPhones, it won't be replacing cards anytime soon to become "the most used payment system in the world."
You lot should applaud Apple for taking this one on, it's a way bigger deal than you seem to grasp and is something only Apple can do. We're leaps ahead over here on infrastructure so once it's beta tested on the americans we should see a rapid and smooth uptake.

It will be interesting to see what the adoption rate is, both by stores and the end consumers. It could be a big failure, an Apple has had some corkers in it's past (Newton anyone?), but these days they do seem to be better than they were, and I don't think they'd be doing it unless they knew it would have a very good chance of working.
I paid at Waitrose tonight and had to get out two cards, payment and loyalty. That's got to change, can't be long before Waitrose and others adopt Passbook. Then paying by phone is twice as efficient as card.
Well I've taken the plunge and ordered an iPad Air 2 WiFi only with 64GB in space grey from the Apple Store, it should be with me hopefully mid next week.
I cannot believe how much people are already paying on eBay for the new iPad, they are paying £100 to £200 more than the retail price all because they haven't got the common sense to order direct from the manufacturer.
As an aside how much better are the new Mac Mini models over their predecessors? As I'm only going to be using it for internet, email, music and photo processing mainly I'm wondering if I get the latest model would I get any real benefit?

With the US starting to chip and pin, here in the UK the system is well established with payment terminals universally accepting all types of payment cards. Apple will be asking for retailers to pay for an additional payment terminal for Apple Pay? Banks and credit card companies already offer NFC enabled cards but the take up buy stores is pretty low. I think the take up will be slow and not all retailers will support it for what would be relatively small number of users and therefore transactions. And for that you will always be carrying a wallet with all your cards and cash as "backup" which will always be accepted wherever you shop.
Pull out a card, scan it, put it back, pull out another card, tap it on the NFC terminal put it back.
vs.
Pull out my phone, tap the terminal, put it back.
As you can see it's twice as quick.

Not only a solution to a problem that doesn't exist
But also an imposition you'd be happy to force on the world - buy apple If you don't want to use cash
I think you're cracked personally, Possibly you require treatment / incarceration
Looks like you still live with your mum, but I reckon more help is required

I live in my own mortgage free house, Apple helped me buy it.
I'd put you in a white room the way you're acting. Repeatedly jumping on Apple threads and bumping them with drivel. It's repetitive and the outcome is always the same, you look mental to everyone but your fellow loonies.

I've had my credit card hacked once, in SA , in 30 years
I doubt those places would ever adopt your terminals or iphone
You've a first world problem...( and this is where apple sells )

And I don't have hate at all, infact I have considered the 5s since my phone has finally died
What I don't like is having to buy several different appliances to make it run / do stuff my present phone does anyway.
But this idea stinks imo

Adoption is happening right under your nose.
Like what? You do realise pretty much every Googly thing your phone does works on iOS.
I've taken the plunge again and ordered a latest generation Mini Mac, I went for the 2.6GHz model along with a Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Magic Mouse.
http://store.apple.com/uk/buy-mac/mac-mini
I did look at buying a second hand last generation with 8GB of memory but they are still commanding good used prices so for the sake of an extra £100 or so I'd rather buy brand new.
I'll be freeing up a lot of space plus I'll probably get Apple TV to work alongside the iPhone, iPad and Mac Mini.
