Serviced, gapped the plugs and cleaned the MAF on the Subaru today. Did the compression test too.

All looks pretty healthy, pics below, starting at cylinder #1 through to #4 in order.

Piece of cake, although my MHI turbo seemed to have a bit of fine balancing done to the nut, so I made my own "unbalanced aerodynamic nut". (see my build thread). Not noticed much of a performance/tuning change tbh. although not datalogged yet, so could be in for a surprise.

So the Impreza got smacked in a car park at the weekend

Cracked and ****ed the paint on the passenger corner of the rear bumper, so something else that needs sorting as it looks ****. ****ing *******.

I'm building the 20G this weekend, and maybe wrapping the decat downpipe if I get time. Then order gaskets, fit it all and map.

Thats not too bad, a couple of hours should see it painted again. Bumper is easy enough to take off, no bent metalwork so all good

Yeah but still a complete ****. Was painted when I got the rest of the car done just after i'd bought it. Going to cost me over a 100 to get it sorted.

Bummer.
Changing the subject, you chose to go with a 6+6 compressor wheel, extended tip, what power do you hope to achieve with it? Also what were your views on the other options (ie 11 equal or 5+5 blade)? I take it the 5+5 would make more power but spool would suffer? and the 1 blade would spool sooner but not flow as much?

Oh, 7+7 i just re-read! what is your thought process behind that? Will make less power than the 6+6 i think no?

Went for the 7+7 config because it should spool slightly faster without giving much away at the top end, it's extended tip too obviously. I doubt there would be a noticeable difference in power between a 6 and a 7 blade, probably not much difference in spool either. But it's something different to try.

Turbo seemed in fairly good condition other than the chipped wheel. Not much wear on the bearings etc.

With regards to the compressor nut, I landed it then tightened 45 degrees with blue locktite and that felt about right to me. My nut was also shaved, I'm fairly sure the brand new replacement nut in my kit was also shaved but I'd need to check.

Need a silicone intake pipe and some gaskets and it can go on.

Did a little work on the Subaru over the weekend, decided it was time to get some proper brakes, so bought a set of 326mm Brembo's to go on.

They're still bedding in but feel pretty good. I will probable replace the discs fairly soon, maybe to some 2 piece items. Having to run a 10mm Eibach spacer to clear the calipers until I change the wheels.

Hasn't been washed in 2 weeks, roads are constantly covered in **** at the moment anyway. Need to get a new front bumper sorted for it, wagon bumpers are like hens teeth though.

Replaced the battery on the car at the weekend as the old one had died a few times.

Also just ordered a new set of discs for the Brembos, some J or C (whatever you want to call them) hook discs.

Just read through this whole thread and I am very impressed!
The engine work you have done is amazing and your patience with the running/misfiring issues was saintly to say the least!
The new turbo looks a beast next to the old one, as you've both discussed hopefully it won't push the power to far up the rev range.
What wheels are you thinking of changing to?
I don't really know anything about Subaru cars having always had BMW's, but I've just bought a wrx bugeye, I was looking into which exhaust to buy and google gave me your thread which has wasted a couple of hours

Thanks for the comments, I've sold that turbo, I'm thinking of building a TD05 18G instead. I've got a BMW too .

So new wheels, Braid Winrace Tarmac A's, in near perfect condition, just one little curb mark that needs a touch up. They're 17 x 8 with 225/45/17s. They clear the brembo's fine, currently still running the spacers until I can swap back to my original wheel studs.

Wheels look good

What tyres are you running?
Mine is on 215's and they don't half look skinny compares to what I've run on my beamers!

Yea I saw you bought the 320 Touring, have you got rid of those horrible 16's yet? I had those on my 320d and fitted some Style 32's which looked much nicer. I think you had a good idea in whacking that old turbo on the E46!

225/45/17 on the Subaru.

BMW is just a daily ****ter so not overly concerned about making it look good.
