I'll bet most of the people who slag off 2.5s have never driven a well built one and experienced the huge torque available. Of course the base engine is not without its problems, that is well documented and we all (most of us) know about it.
A good 2 litre engine is nice. Been there and done that. But as they say, there's no substitute for size.

Anyway to the OP, glad you now have a solution to work on mate. Have fun.

Same here. 64k miles now on standard 2.5 engine running 334bhp 381lb/ft on every day car for last 20k + miles.

Thanks for all the replies guys, seeing a new potential STi tonight

This threads gone off topic now, and there are plenty of other 2.0 vs 2.5 threads already in discussion.

Your right it has gone slightly off topic but wherever you find a thread involving the 2.5 you will get the haters . It has however offered up some ideas/options for you, eg good hawks that have not been forged, this could save you from spending 3k for a rebuild that you might not need.

Good luck with your new search and I hope lightening doesn't strike twice.
