i have a 99 uk turbo. do i need a new E.C.U. in order to get it remapped?

The answer is no.
Your curent ECU is mappable.

I have got a feeling Jolly Green Monster is quite near to you - he has a good reputation and is always helpful with advice, etc

Or you could consider upgrading to a Prodrive ECU (part of the Prodrive Performance Pack).

I know of two which are available for £300, in kent, that have come off of RB5's.

Depends on how many ££££'s you want to spend.
