I've ordered some Eibachs from my local performance tunning centre and told them to order 'old' shape springs as the new ones aren't ready yet. Have I done the right thing?

Seems to be three types on the market atm

o MY00 and below (old impreza)
o MY01 and above
o MY01 and above (new version)

Just make sure you do not get the ones for the old model.

Having just spoken to Paul from TSL, I have done the correct thing! The 'old' springs work with the new dampers very well.

There are:

1. The "old" Pro-Kit springs for the <MY01 (but work well on the MY01/02 WRX (and some say on the MY01/02 STi too))
2. The Prodrive Eibachs for the MY01
3. The new Eibachs as billed for the MY01/02 WRX and STi

All are "safe" choices and down to what you prefer.

From what they told me went I was at TSL getting my Eibachs fitted, types 2 and 3 in the list someone has kindly posted above are both fine for the new generation WRX. The only difference cosmetically is that the newest type lower the beast even more.

I've had the 'old' Eibachs fitted to my MY01 for nearly a year now. As I understand it, the Prodrive supplied versions for the MY01 give a slightly softer ride (still firm) - someone will correct me if this is wrong.

Anyway, I've had no problems and they vastly improve the handling. Make sure when you get them fitted, that you get a decent place to do the geometry / alignment - i.e. TSL or Powerstation (where I went) etc.

They also do a very good job in losing the 'on stilts' look that the new shape car has on standard springs. Obviously this is achieved by some degradation in ride quality. If you are happy with this, then go ahead you'll love 'em :)

Chris - you are correct the Prodrive/Eibach offering that Subaru sell is x% softer than the new MY'01+ Eibach. The MY'01/'02 Eibach is 25% stiffer than the OE springs.. and as was said above, lowers the car slightly more than the MY'00 Eibach does when fitted to an MY'01/'02, it is also a different spring rate on the new shape eibach compared to the classic shape eibach.

I ordered a set of 'old' springs for my car having heard that they were fitted to the new shape and worked better thatn the new shape springs.

However, they did not fit! If others are fiting them, I'd be carefull. So I now have the proper MY01 springs on my car and to be quite frank, wish I hadn't tried to be so clever fitting the old as they are spot on :D!

Mine were fitted by Powerstation - and they were by no means the first set they had fitted to a new shape. The installation was then independently checked by a well known and reputable Scoob main dealer for insurance purposes and they declared it perfectly OK.

I think you should query this. AFAIK the only real difference between the old and new Eibachs was the stiffness of the springs.
