Default Most aggressive yet functional wheels?

Hi all.

What are the best aggressive looking, yet functional wheel?

It might sound like an odd question, but you look at some 8.5" wide rims with the car lowered on coilovers, or even slammed on a newage and it looks impractical.

Pictures would help with wheel specs, must clear brembo too

Hi Rob

Best aggressive looking and functional wheel, hard to say, really depends on the for what car will be used and mostly do you want car lowered or just keep it in standard ride height

You must take to consideration, when you will be running wide and aggressive fitment, those wheels will looks little bit odd on standard ride height

But back to yours question,we run like Rota Grid Drift 9.5JX18 ET38 with 245/40 without the problem, car has been used on daily basis and still we are track the car with the same wheels

After that we run Drag DR31 9JX17" with Toyo R888 255/40 R17,which has been great wheels and they're been great like on the track or on the road

Now we running XXR 530's ET20 with 245/35 again and car feels same, although not so much grip like with Toyo, but still awesome to drive on day to day basis, not sure on the track, but hopefully soon will report back

Pictures of the wheel setup:

Rota Grid Drift 9.5JX18 ET38 245/40 ZR18

DRAG DR 31 ET20 with 255/40 ZR17

XXR 530 8.75X18" ET20 with 245/35 ZR18

Hope this helps

Jura

I'm running coilovers which are fully adjustable. They have camber and castor adjusters, so I should be able to do pretty much anything in terms of making it effective and functional. Just finding the right wheel.

I've a set of 18" dynamics that I might experiment with first

Hi Rob

I forgot to add, depends on the tyres what you want to run too

As we run only 245/40 or 255/40 on our wagon,we are prefer meaty style like stretched style, again depends on what size of the wheels you want to run and the you must decide what size of the tyres

With 245/40 onwards and wide wheels you will need to sue camber bolts as above Dan,have arches rolled and possibly raise rear ride height around 1-3" depends if tyres rub in hard corners etc

Second option is you can buy Karlton Flares from USA and then you can use 285/40 with 10-11J wide wheels without the problems

Functional has loads of meanings I have two sets of Rota wheels and both are hyper black and are 9" wide. They are really functional but are they on yours

Let me rephrase then Steve. Rather than "just looks the part", are actually "useable by means of heavy driving style"

I've had rota in the past at 7" wide, and they were spot on for sprints etc, but very minimal surface grip at 225 wide, where as some rota are as you say 8.5-9" wide that fit under a standard subaru arch with minimal adaption (arch rolling, camber bolts etc). So which wheel is good value for £ that are 8"-8.5" wide that will see me through road experience with a little track in mind?

I'll drop mags a pm too.

id say an 18x8.5 grid or force wheel in the rota range or the xxr 527 18x8.75 , still slightly concave but useable with a 235,40,18 tyre with slight mods

That's strange then
Cos if you run your hand under a early blob Sti the lip is about 15-18 mm
While on the later with arch extensions it's about 7-10 mm
But ha hoe maybe the ones I'd looked at where modified

i think your missing the point you can have as wide as you want depending on how much work you want to do.

8.5 no problem
8.75 require camber bolts on rear
9.00 require arch work and so on

so the bigger you go the more work is required

obviously et makes a difference, your best bet is to ring a wheel specialist and tell them what you require.
