Default What could be wrong?

Had new brakes fitted all round, 330mm Ksport on the fronts and newage Brembo on the rears
Done about 300 miles on them but the rears don't seem to be making full contact with the discs. I'm positive they are fitted correctly but the rear pads don't seem to be fully bitting yet, is it a bedding in issue? Rear pads are EBC Red

most likely the pad isn't moving correctly in the caliper?? or you have used s/hand pads which have slightly chamfered wear on them??

E*C's are horrid anyhows particuarly greenstuff.........IMO

It looks like to me you have hatch STi rear calipers on a 290mm WRX disc , to do this the lugs on the calipers need machining down , and if not done correctly then the caliper will not be square on the disc and you can end up in this situation where the pad doesn't sit squarely on the disc so only part of the pad makes contact , can't really think of any other reason it would do that if its all new.

As above greenstuff would not be my choice on an Impreza

Which pads would you recommend for these?

I'd fit the same as you have on the fronts , DS2500's , if you have the set up I think you have then whatever pads you buy they will need machining to fit as the backing plate will be too wide

Seems this could be the problem. I've checked the inside of the disc and that seems to be making full contact though... But it is quite hard to see the inside edge of the disc whilst fitted, I'd have to remove them to be 100%

Not quite sure I fully understand why the sti pad needs to be machined to fit the sti caliper though. You did explain today but can you explain again please, maybe with a diagram or picture? Thanks

To fit the hatch rear brembo calipers onto a classic you need to machine the lugs thinner on the calipers , and then you can only fit them onto WRX290mm discs , you cannot fit the sti 316mm discs , as the WRX disc has less pad area width on them compared to the sti discs , the pads need to have material taken off them to reduce the width of the pad to make them fit the WRX disc

Personally I would buy PF Z-rated pads which cost still less than EBC Orange or Blue and they perform nicely like on the road or track

Speak to Alyn@AS Performance about them, part number is 1247.10 for PF Z-Rated pads

Ok thanks
So that could be the cause of my issue? As I mentioned the pad seems to be making full contact on the inside of the disc, but clearly not on the outside of the disc as shown in the picture
It is identical on both sides

Does look like you need the calipers machined.

I fitted a full STi kit on the rear of mine including the bigger discs, using Ian's fitting kit.

Works straight out of the box.

The pad material looks like its been ground down , it doesn't look flat , I can see some high spots , put some emery cloth on a flat surface and rub the pads back and forth to make sure the pads are flat and the emery cloth is rubbing on the whole pad face

All that aside though you can still see where the pads are oversized for the discs though? I'll call you in the morning if that's alright?
