Default 4 pots on rear of Rb5

Hi guys has anybody put 4pots on the rear of a classic impreza that has 4pots on the front to?
I'm sure I've seen/read that it has been done?
Are there any issues with doing this?
Is there a fitting guild if it's ok?
Is there a drawing for fitting plate or were I get one from?

Cheers peeps
Daz

IIRC it's a PITA and not worth doing, Ian Godney certainly advises against.

Why not get the brake bias mod done instead?

Anything can be done but not always adviseable. Manufacturers fit smaller brakes to the rear of a car for a reason, brake bias. If the bias is too far to the rear then you run the risk if locking the rears before the front and losing directional stability (potentially ending in a spin)

On early classics with primitive abs then locking the rear brakes causes the abs to remove all braking effort at both ends of the car. The theory is it is better to steer than brake. This catches unwary owners out every time it snows, and has given the Impreza abs a poor reputation. The brakes already had a poor reputation lol

That said the Impreza certainly benefits from an increase in rear braking effort
Assuming you already have braided hoses and decent front pads then the most common upgrade to rear of a classic (visually and increase in brake effort) is fitting the 2 pot rear set up from the later new age car. This works quite well.

After this further improvements can be made by
fitting the later master cylinder from MY99 cars onwards (reduces the pedal stroke slightly),
fitting a brake stopper (increases feel by reducing the effects of bulkhead flex when standing on the brake pedal)
removing the brake proportioning valves (again here you run the danger of locking the rears before the front if your fronts are not performing properly)

Done all the above on my daily driver and very happy with it on Pagids.

Cheers guys

Have been thinking of bias setup..

Don't want to change the standard wheels.
I've got braided hoses all round tarox g40 and ds2500 all round...

Just toying with ideas as we know impreza brakes arnt the best!!!

RB5 had 17 inch wheels as standard you possibly have room for the 330 mod. I would still stick with your initial instinct and look at the back first tho

You already have the bigger master cylinder and better abs (I stand to be corrected on the abs)

That leaves the 2 pot rear setup, brake stopper and bias mod as a cheap and cheerful initial mod.
