That's what everyone says but my 32mm socket has play in it when it's over the hub nut and slips off if I try to loosen it

Maybe it's a very bad fitting 32mm socket, or one that is formed in such a way it fits metric and imperial sizes with the same socket??

Is your 32mm socket a 6 sided one? If not i would recommend to use a 6 sided one to help stop the slipping, also if its slipping on the hub nut, then make sure the socket does not have a fracture on it, sometimes you don't notice but when pressure is applied it causes the socket to prize its self open allowing it to slip on the nut, either that or somebody has over tightened it or tried to remove the nut without tapping up the retaining lug on to the shaft, I've got a 31mm socket in one of our 1" drive sets and can honestly say I don't think its ever been out of the box, its that rare a size on a car

If you have no joy try using a little heat on the nut to get it to expand a little and help grip against the side of the socket

Yeah it's a 6 sided one. It does sound like it's got to be a dodgy 32mm socket I've got. It's quiet loose when put over the nut but EVERYONE says 32mm the size. Think il buy another 32mm socket tomorrow and hope it sorts out the problem. Yeah people have looked at me funny when I've mentioned a 31mm socket. Thanks for the help guys

Just been out in the rain and had a go. Think I know the problem. The edges of the hub nut are worn so the socket just slips off as soon as you put some torque through it. Where would i go about getting a new hub nut?

The dealership

Depending on whether you're removing it to change the wheel bearing, a new nut also usually comes in the wheel bearing kit.
