Default Fast weekend car Tyre choice HELP!

Hi guys,

Sorry its another what tyre thread but with most of these threads everyone is looking for smoothing different so your advice would be very welcome!
OK the car is 460/460 Hawkeye WRX ruining Prodrive Wheels.

Its only used for 4k miles a year and is semi stripped out and basically a toy! I plan to do a few track days or take it for a trip around the Ring one day and a spirited drive to Le Mans in June, The car doesn’t get used in the Winter so its a summer only tyre! I am also happy to take it careful in deep water etc .

My current tyres are Yok prada 2 and these have been great, 18 - 20k on them and they are just about dead. high mileage has to be down to a great setup as I don’t drive around that’s slowly and most of the driving is on country roads. I also plan on getting the suspension upgraded with Ohlins or KWs so I am looking for something to make the most of this setup.

Ok my questions.

Do I go for 225 or 235? Currently I am running 225 as that’s the only size that the Prada comes in but if its a option should I go with the wider rubber?

Question two: which of these have people experienced:

ADVAN Neova AD08 (looks like a very good road tyre!

Parada Spec 2 again

ADVAN A048 semi slick and it comes in a MH 235 but would this work on the road for the odd blast and what level of mileage would you get? My main concern is as I don’t do many miles I don’t like having very old tyres on the car so maybe getting 12k out of a set would be ideal (3 Years)

Dmack rally slicks (has any one used these , love the real WRC look but need to understand if they work and how they wear.
Anything else that’s a similar quality?

And the final question any recommendation on where to but them? I am planning on getting my wheels refurbished so I just want the tyres without fitting.

Thanks all!

R888's lasted two trackdays and 6,500 miles on mine, but another trackday would be possible at below 1.6mm....

Superb, noisy tyre with astonishing grip compared to ordinary road tyres, I ran Ultrac Sessantas by Vredestein as winter tyres and although good in the wet, they were no-where near as capable on dry tarmac.

HTH

I run the ad08, can't fault the tyre good in wet, superb in the dry, I was told not to run 888 on a newage as their too heavy for the tyre, their more suited to a classic.

how do you find the wear on the ado8?

Thinks that's the safe choice as I really love the current Yokos I have.

I find the wear pretty good on them, considering the grip they give, with regards to size I run a 235 40 18 that's on an 8 and half inch wheel

I run 225 40 18 Michelin Pilot Sport 2 XL on mine

Superb tyre with unbelievable grip

I would not recommend the Pilot Sport 3 as much ; pretty sure you cannot get the Super Sport in 225.

I run a huge amount of caster so any wider for me and my inner arch liner etc will rub quite badly.

Had Yoka before, along with others but for me the Michelin is the best. Maybe not a factor for you but they are so much better in the wet than the Yoko.

If you are going for a decent suspension set up, then on the Subaru you will wanting a lot of caster, so as above I would stick with the 225 to give you the best options - If you were closer then you could have had a shot of mine. I am sure if would convince you

thanks for all the helpI have gone for the Federal 595 RSR track tyre, they are really good value and a little safer than other track tyres in the Wet from the review I have read. (And feedback from Frayz)

Its a hard one for me as the car doesn’t get used that much so day to day safety is not really a high priority, from what I have read, on a daily used car I would go down the Michelin Pilot Super Sport or the AD08 as both seem a great fast road tyre.

Time will tell if this was a good move but at that price it wouldn’t be the end of the world to have to change them at the end of the year!

Thanks again for everyone’s ideas and feedback!

Chris, I use the Pilot Super Sport in 225 on the bomber with KWs and over 6 degrees of caster. Also use the RSRs on my 50 mile per day Clio 182 and they're superb

Really rate both tyres.
