Default Is this a fair price for brakes?

My wrx 300 got hit by a motor home and went to the garage for a new wing. Whilst it was there they noticed the brakes on opposite side were binding and I told them to investigate problem. They've decided that the disc is warped, one of the pads was apparently almost glued to the disc and the calliper needs reconditioning as it is basically f***d. It has Brembo brakes and they've quoted me for reconditioned calliper, new discs and red stuff pads £659 including labour. Does this seem a fair price? Also I'm a little concerned that they drove the car away from my house (didn't notice any brake issues prior to accident) and now it's apparently Undrivable, they say because its been sat in a yard for a month. Wouldn't I have noticed before though? What could cause this in beginning? ive only had car 2 months and a month of it has been sat in garage. I just want my scoob back :-(

Speak to Ian @ Godspeed breaks or drop him a pm on here, does alot of Subaru calipers and discs and is well priced and would personally recommend them

Also Alyn @ AS Performance comes highly recommended and caters for your needs

I personally think what you have been quoted is too much and on another note I wouldn't run red stuff pads, had them on my M3 and personally thought they where shít, I've also seen alot of other people complain about the same thing, they had a crap bite and were dead after 2 months iirc and they left a load of crap on the wheel, for what they cost as well I would opt for another pad, I even found the Kevlar pads I had on my last impreza better tbh ( obviously the M3 calipers are different to the Sti ), I would be looking at another pad, but that's just my opinion

I would have thought for what you have been quoted you could get both calipers overhauled with discs and decent pads check out this link

The UK 300 should have the subaru calipers fitted , have they been changed to Brembo's ?

Sounds like they are pulling a fast one , the Brembo calipers are very good at fighting off the elements and we only see them to recondition because either threads have been damaged or they need repainting , its very rare for them to seize , the caliper bodies and pistons are alloy so don't rust like the Subaru cast steel calipers do.

To give you some idea's , we can supply front and rear grooved discs with black painted centres and kevlar sport pads for the Gold Brembo calipers for £275 , and we recondition front and rear calipers for £300 , so even doing all the brakes comes in cheaper what they are saying for one caliper and front discs and pads.

Sounds like they are scare mongering to get you to have the work done , there is no reason you cannot drive it away from the garage , yes if you leave a car parked up the discs will go rusty , and as there is metal content in the pads the pads can rust and stick to the disc , but they should release when rocking the car back and forth or driving off , then driving the car would then clean the rust off the discs

Hope this helps
Cheers Ian
