How good are my brakes?

How good are my brakes?
When my car went in for it's MOT a few months back the tester said it was reading as 430kg on the brakes? This means nothing to me 
but he said it was quite decent braking power.
He only told me because I asked what were the brakes like as it was running unknown rear discs and pads, unknown half worn front discs (all previous owner) and at the time brand new orangestuff front pads (which at the time were still not even bedded in).
I still think the brakes are a little on the soft side and would like more braking power, will all most certainly upgrade in the future.
