Question

Not sure if this helps, but 2 weeks agao I emailed AP about their new 362mm kit for the Evo. I wanted to know if they planned to release this kit for the scoob. From thier reply below the have no plans to release a bigger conversion than the current 330mm one.

We haven't' considered it as an option yet.
The first Evo 7 kit was basically designed to fit under the OE rim with a
disc of Ø332x32mm, coupled to the APR 6 pot it was more than an adequate
upgrade from the OE Brembo 4 pots.
But an East European customer put in a very large order for an EVO 7 brake
kit to fill 19" rims (Compomotive specials) and we took up the order because
the caliper was capable.

The Subaru 6 pot kit uses a different caliper spec to the above and is
designed to suit the popular 17" rims meaning it can only use upto a maximum
of Ø330 x28mm discs. 362mm 6 pot set up has an outer radius of 205.5mm add
3mm for clearance x2 = Ø417mm for the inner diameter of the rim. I don't
think the usual 18" are this big! Therefore the biggest on an 18" is usually
Ø355 disc requiring an inner Ø412mm to clear!
This caliper type CP5555 also uses a disc width of 32mm, this equates to a
set up requiring greater wheel spoke offset than the regular 6 pot kit. As
an estimate the depth of the spoke from hub mounting face would need to be
36mm where as the regular kit only requires 25mm to clear. This is why
Compomotive produced specials. I am not saying there aren't Impreza rims on
the market to suit but you need to find one before a kit is designed.
A bigger kit would require new bells & brackets designing to accept the
bigger disc / caliper. What you would get over the original 6 pot is a
heavier installation with the same pad and piston area but with an increase
in disc radius and more disc mass to dissipate heat. Unless you pushed the
car to the very limit on track you would not see much improvement over the
regular kit. Cooling could be improved equally as well by adding ducting.

As a quick check on the suitability of your own rims try down loading the
brake profile / template from the web site
www.apracing
road car product
brake kit
application guide
make model
kit is CP5575-1000 for the 330 6 pot, click on the word HERE in the
paragraph, print to A4 ( not fit to page) cut out the dotted line shape,
centralise the template inside the rim by means of the spigot, check for a
minimum of 3mm clearance around the caliper profile paying particular
attention to the front face of the caliper against the inner face of the
wheel spoke.

To answer your question though there are no immediate plans to produce a
bigger kit, you really would have to look at the rear set up i.e. more
expose and you would in all probability end up with an over reactive brake
for road use.

edited to say: maybe this makes the kit that GGR offer is not an official AP Product?

Cool

None of the GGR kits are "official" AP Racing kits. They use bells sourced elsewhere (which I believe are thicker), they use cheaper discs (in their other kits so I presume with this one as well) and other parts not of AP origin.

It is not impossible that AP will develop a new larger kit and the weight gains may not be as monumental as first perceived/indicated above.

Most of the other info is accurate. I will mark this back when I have made further progress with APR, there are things happening that may mean we can do a larger kit in the not tooooo distant future?

Question

Mike,
Can you give any more details?, is their an new AP product on its way?, have been considering the current AP6's after phoning you about 1 month back, I would be prepaired to wait if I could fill my 18's.

Arrow

I would be inclined to hold off a short while and see if anything happens, I can't confirm anything at the moment, but we (myself & APR) are working on a few options at the moment.

The GGR kits use genuine AP Discs, at least the Cosworth kits do. The only things not AP are bells and brackets.
