Tyre size for 18" x 8J rims

What is the best size tyre to run on an 18x8J rim?

Also what is the widest tyre I could run?

It all depends on the car and the wheel offset - I run 235/40s on my bug and with a 50mm drop there's no clearance issues, running ET48 but with 12mm spacers at the rear. Think that's about the widest tyre on an 8" rim
