Default Winter wheels and tyres

Hi guys, with winter coming and the thought of snow etc I was wondering what size tyres and wheels would best be suited to my 03 sti. I currently have 18s fitted and with the Brembos presume I would need 17s. I don't need high speed tyres as most of the driving will be from urban.

I have an 03sti with the std 17" rims for winter with michelin Alpin tyres (225 45 17), real good combination. In fact the only limiting factor with these is ground clearance in the snow.

I have 215 45 17 Toyo SnowProxies on my Impreza Sport Hawkeye which has good ground clearance. No great problems at all.

Melting snow is where real knobbly tyres are better but great in all other conditions.

I'm putting my winter Rota GRA's and fresh Paradas 225/40/ 18 on in a few weeks time.

If for snow then a more narrow tyre will better.

The width thing does not work any longer to an extent and there is now a minimium.

Subaru in the owners manual will advise on a size and weight rating of winter tyre assuming it is UK supplied.

For insurance purposes you cannot go below this size and weight marking as these tyres have to work on normal weather dry roads.
