4 wheel alignment and new tyres/wear
Heyup everyone,
just want some advice and/or views on my predicament....
had my Bug WRX for 4 years now and had loads of different tyres....getting some FK452s all round on Tuesday cos I think that they have been the best value over the years...(£320 all in/fitted 225/40/18)
Anyways....the predicament is.......
...since I bought her (not done by me)the car has the camber/4 wheel alignment set (positive- I think?) so that the inside of the fronts wear more...the handling has always been top dollar and I am assuming that it is partly down to this camber set up?
Different people have been telling me to have the alignment done again as it MIGHT give me better wear and handling but I am reluctant to blow £140 on something that might not do anything and may even make the handling worse?
I am just not sure about spending nearly half as much as the tyres cost on-top so that I can MAYBE save a few mil here and there....
What do I do?.......
Oh...and the missus wants a holiday.....
I am just looking for advice and views....
there is a local place to me called ABP Motorsport that I have heard good things about...if anyone can recommend somewhere in the East Cheshire/Stoke-on-Trent area?

Well. First of all, show us your current alignment. Then tell us how you drive, and where you drive(road or track, or both). Then we can advise you on how to do.
Take a look at my alignment. I drive on the road and track but favour handling on the track over inside tire wear. I also use Toyo R888 tires on the track, and they like a lot camber!
Translation from swedish to english.
Före - before
Aktuellt - current
höger - right
vänster - left
fram - front
bak - rear
Here you got my last years alignment. It's more road friendly.

I went through a few sets of tyres, where the inside edge of the tyre was down to the cord! Yet the rest of the tyre had a good 4-5mm of tread depth.
I had Simon from Chevron Motorsport complete a full geometry set-up, using his sprint settings! The handling is miles better than the OE Prodrive settings and tyre wear is a lot better!
This is on MY07 RB320, with Perrin ALK, Perrin front & rear solid drop links and rear adjustable camber bolts.

Thanks guys...
...so, so far, it looks like a geo setup maybe in order...
Goffemannen:- I have no idea how it is currently setup....??
Maybe I should take your settings into a garage and get them put on mine...or maybe this is a bad idea?

Geometry settings shouldn't be too much a black art. Once you understand some of the basics you can go along to your alignment shop and 'ask' for what you want, rather than being given what you get. So, if you want more aggressive turn-in for fast road of more camber for track session you can (although you might need camber bolts for the latter), but you get the drift.
I use my local Chemix who have a Hunter 4 wheel laser aligner. For a full set-up where they spend a long time setting all four wheels it costs £50. For more minor adjustments it is less, and I took it in the other day as I had hit a pothole and they didn't charge me anything for the tweak of the track rod
Here's an excellent thread which gives some base line stuff, plus some good settings which you wont go wrong with

About £100 with the adjustable bolts!
After the full GEO, Simon will take you out & see if you're happy with the set-up!
I then get it checked by him annually, which he doesn't charge for if nothing needs adjusting
Well worth it, as it's easily saved me more in tyres & the handling is miles better!!!
