Default AP 362mm brakes clearances?

Guys,

Just checking if anybody knows if the 362mm AP racing big brakes kit will clear the original 17s on a jdm??

http://shop.grahamgoode.com/ap-racin...4b-64786-p.asp

Although i run 18s on a daliy basis, would like to be able to keep hold of the 17s for trackdays and thus need to see if they would clear?

I think the 356mm kit will clear but since i can get the 362mm kit for the same price, it will silly to go for the smaller kit?
Unless of course there isnt much in the way of braking performace between the 356mm kit or 362mm kit?

So if anyone has either of these fitted to their hawkeye, it would be good to know if your original 17s fitted ok.

Cheers
Mel

Hi Mel

I'm running as track wheels 17" on the K-sport 8pots 356mm.If you want to use 17" on your big brake kit,you will need low ET alloys.

We are running Drag DR31 9JX17 ET20 with Toyo R888 255/45 R17 and those just clear K-sport 8 pot 356mm,don't think they will allocate 362mm,for 362mm you will need at least 18"

OE 17" will not clear 356mm,but i would speak to Rich@Mags about this for sure

Thanks Jura,

Kinda thought that it was wishful thinking for my original 17s to clear the 362 kit and by your advice they wont even clear the 356mm kit either.

So if i have to get another set of 18s for track use i suppose that i may aswell go for the 362mm kit.

Will speak to rich and see what he says.

Thanks

This should help you decide which kit is better for your needs

With 17" wheels 335mm is the largest you can go , any larger will require 18" wheels.

Regarding the idea of 'race proven ' calipers , in my opinion the CP7040 road calipers are more suited to the majority of Impreza drivers as they have much better dust sealing , we have a lot of the ' race proven ' calipers such as the 5570 and 5555 calipers in for rebuild and they will need more parts than the 7040 as the pistons are out in the open , it doesn't take much for them to be chipped by stones and the anodising comes off and they corrode.

We have some front and rear AP calipers in at the moment and every piston needs changing , its costing the guy around £800 to recon them fully as it had damaged threads , seized bolts ect , they were in a right mess.

We have to date reconditioned some 7040 calipers to spray them , and we have never had to change any pistons in them , only seals , in my opinion these are the calipers to go for.
They have exactly the same size pistons as the 5555 and 5570 calipers so they will work exactly the same , but with better protection from the weather.

I could make you a 335mm kit with AP 7040 6 pot calipers and a choice of pad for £1399 inc vat and these would fit under your wheels

Hope this helps
Cheers Ian
